Description

The Kaiju Preservation Society is John Scalzi's first standalone adventure since the conclusion of his New York Times bestselling Interdependency trilogy.

When COVID-19 sweeps through New York City, Jamie Gray is stuck as a dead-end driver for food delivery apps. That is, until Jamie makes a delivery to an old acquaintance, Tom, who works at what he calls "an animal rights organization." Tom's team needs a last-minute grunt to handle things on their next field visit. Jamie, eager to do anything, immediately signs on.

What Tom doesn't tell Jamie is that the animals his team cares for are not here on Earth. Not our Earth, at least. In an alternate dimension, massive dinosaur-like creatures named Kaiju roam a warm, human-free world. They're the universe's largest and most dangerous panda and they're in trouble.

It's not just the Kaiju Preservation Society who have found their way to the alternate world. Others have, too. And their carelessness could cause millions back on our Earth to die.

I hate that i was forced to think this had anything in common with jurassic park.

This is NOT jurassic park. This feels like an adventure into a parallel universe with fun characters and giant monsters. It was very fun to read and wasnt too long, perfect for anyone really. Do you like a bit of sci-fi and fantasy? Go ahead an read it :) !

Being generous with the 2*

It was quite fun, a very easy read - but I was missing some depth. It just felt like a very good blockbuster movie. One I enjoyed but also one that would not stick with me for much longer. I would have loved to learn so much more about the Kaijus, the world they live in, what we've learned about them so far etc. But within only around 250 pages there's only so much you can cram in there. Should be a nice little holiday read :)

I liked the idea and the beginning of the book, it seemed fun and interesting but somehow the characters fell flat and the story got a bit boring. I had to force myself to finish it.

A very entertaining ride which could have been even better if you really felt with the characters. They are there, they all have a purpose but the action and the goals never really feel high-stake. They just happen and then they are over. But maybe this was all part of the lighthearted B-movie-romp John Sclazi was going for. And a bit of Trump-Era-bashing :-)

Better than I thought
