Fitz, der königliche Bastard, wird als Kind am Königshof aufgenommen und ausgebildet. Seine Stellung, zwischen "allen Stühlen" macht ihn zum perfekten Lehrjungen in Stall, Schreibstube, Waffenkunst u.v.m, auch als Meuchelmörder. Wie er dies umsetzt, wie er seine Gabe anwendet, mit wie er mit Freund und Feind umgeht, davon erzählt diese Fantasygeschichte im mittelalterlichen Setting. Die Welt des Fitz ist wunderschön beschrieben, mal leidet, jubelt, ängstigt, freut sich mit ihm. Seine Entwicklung wird spannend beschrieben und die Story ist fesselnd bis zum Schluss. Im Mittelteil empfand ich den Fortgang der Geschichte etwas langatmig, doch nach wenigen Seiten war die Spannung wieder da. Sehr gut gefallen hat mir, dass die Story ohne Liebeszsenen auskam, obwohl eine zarte Verliebtheit spürbar war. Völlig ausreichend. Der Autorin ist es gelungen, schon nach wenigen Seiten Spannung aufzubauen und eine schöne, geheimnisvolle Welt voller Intrigen zu erschaffen, die dem Leser plastisch vor Augen steht.
Toller Fantasyauftakt
Nachdem es 1 Jahr auf meinem Sub lag, weil ich mich an ein neues riesengroßes Universum nicht herantrauen wollte, hab ich diese Fantasy Urgestein angefangen. Man folgt Fitz in diesem Buch. Einem wie soll man es sagen, armen Würstchen. Durch den Schreibstil wird man direkt in Fitz und seinem traurigen Schicksal hineingezogen. Man fühlt seinen Herzschmerz, seinen Mut, seinen Willen und fiebert einfach nur mit. Die Beschreibungen der Welt sind so schön atmosphärisch und die Fantasyanteile sind bisher noch klein aber interessant. Einige Plotpoints waren wieder sehr offensichtlich aber gehören ja auch irgendwie zu dem Genre. Bin gespannt was die Reihe noch zu bieten hat.
The Farseer Trilogy 1/3 👦🐕
Ich will garnicht viele Worte über dieses Buch verlieren, ausser das ich mich schäme noch nie von dieser Reihe oder der Autorin gehört zu haben. Robin Hobb ist großartig und hat etwas geschafft was Bücher bei mir fast nie schaffen - zum Schluss gab es ein paar Tränen. Danke BookTube für die Empfehlung, diese kann ich ungeteilt weitergeben. Ein Slowburner der jede Sekunde wert ist. Ich freue mich auf die Fortsetzung.
Immersive charakterbasierte Fantasy
Schon viel habe ich über diese Reihe(n) gehört, davon alles ausschließlich positiv - und das völlig zurecht. Hobb schafft hier eine so faszinierende Charaktertiefe, vor allem was den Protagonisten FitzChivalry angeht, aber auch in den Nebencharakteren. Wir begleiten Fitz ab seiner Kindheit und zunächst entwickelt sich die Geschichte zwar langsam, aber alles andere langweilig. Fitz Aufwachsen, sein Wachsen und Lernen, seine Hürden und seine Verantwortung - über all das habe ich so gerne gelesen und Fitz jetzt schon in mein Herz geschlossen. Der Fokus liegt definitiv auf dem Ausbau von Fitz Charakter, aber auch abgesehen davon, hat die Geschichte wirklich viel zu bieten. Es passieren so viele spannende Dinge in der gesamten Welt, ein Twist jagt den nächsten und sowohl Fitz als auch wir als Leser bekommen kaum Ruhe. Noch dazu ist Hobbs Schreibstil und Art des Storytelling einfach unglaublich gut und lässt einen so richtig tief in die Geschichte und die Welt eintauchen, als würde man alles Seite an Seite mit Fitz erleben.
Nichts für mich leider :(
Sehr Schade aber leider so gar nichts für mich. Ich habe viel erwartet und nicht wirklich was bekommen. Das Buch hatte für mich keinen spannenden Handlungsstrang. Es war zwar nett mit anzusehen wie Fitz heranwächst und welche Herausforderungen auf ihn zukommen, mehr aber auch nicht. Die Handlungsstränge die ich als Interessant erachtet habe wurden super schnell abgespeist. Ein großartiger Plot war für mich nicht ersichtlich. Hat mich absolut nicht abgeholt, ist gar nicht meine Art von Buch… Klassisches Fantasy ist es sicherlich, für mich war es aber einfach zu „Cozy“. Mich haben die Umschreibungen auch mit der Zeit schrecklich genervt. Ich habe mich wirklich gequält das Buch zu Ende zu lesen und habe eine richtig fiese Leseflaute dadurch bekommen… Eine Reihe die ich daher abbrechen muss. Ich bin mir aber sicher, dass dieses Buch einigen gefallen könnte und jeder sollte dem Ganzen zumindest eine Chance geben. Jemand (Die Autorin) hat hier sein Herzblut reingesteckt! Vorallem wenn man auf „Cozy“ Reading steht 🫶🏻🫶🏻

Years and years, we'll follow Fitz finding his place, his determination. Review: Assassins Apprentice is a slow burn- high fantasy with great worldbuilding and interesting characters. The world is beautifully written, and Robin Hobb created marvellous images in my head within her writing. If it only was less slow burn... 🫠 2/3 of the book I needed to get set in the story, not much happened, and I had the feeling to be held up. The last third was exciting, and in exactly that pace, I like to read! 3,5⭐️ in rating isn't bad, but I wish I could have given just one more!
Ich hatte schon erwartet, dass es mir gefallen wird, aber dann war es wirklich mehr als gut und ich bin froh diesen Fantasy Klassiker endlich gelesen zu haben! Die Geschichte wird sehr langsam und ausführlich aus der Sicht von dem jungen Bastard Fitz erzählt der rückblickend sein Leben reflektiert. Wir erfahren viel über das Leben am Hof, die verschiedenen Charaktere, Fitz Ausbildung und die mit dem Bastardsein einhergehenden Probleme. Der Fantasy Anteil ist recht gering, es gibt ,,the Wit“ und ,,the Skill“ als magische Kräfte sowie eine drohende Bedrohung die es zu bekämpfen gilt. Vor allem geht es in diesem Buch aber um Macht und Intrigen und diese damit einhergehenden Schwierigkeiten fand ich sehr interessant. Robin Hobb schafft es erstaunlich gut einzigartige Charaktere zu erschaffen, besonders mochte ich dabei Chade, Burrich und the Fool. Die Kapitel waren recht lang und teilweise war mir die Erzählweise etwas zu ausschweifend. Zum Ende hin wurde es dann aber nochmal richtig spannend und ich freue mich schon sehr die Reihe bald fortzusetzen und bin gespannt wie es mit Fitz weitergeht.
Wow! This book left me speechless!
As I said, speechless! This book isn't just insanely beautifully worded, but the characters and their relationships and motives are so immaculately crafted, I don't know how the author did it. You just know behind every action there is a reason why someone did what they did and if it's just their personality shining through. The ending of this book especially left me in awe. That was a wild ride of emotions. I can't really say anything more or I'll spoil the experience for future readers. One warning, this book is tough on dog lovers, although ultimately this book is for you. You just have to trust me on this and hate me at times for it. It'll be worth it, I promise.
Oh boi
This is a chonky boi and so much happens but its like a shit ton of tiny things and only one big event at the end and I love it but I'm also kinda overwhelmed because I can't say what will be important and what isn't and yeah.. I can't really say much because I have so many feelings but very few coherent thoughts about this book. Looking forward to continueing this series though ^^"
Great start to an epic journey.
I already read all 16 books of the realm of the elderlings, so this is now my second read. On my first read I was not so sure about this book. I did not like Fitz as the main character and got confused about who is who and what is happening. But on the second read it was so much better! I know where the story will go, and I'm just happy to meet so many dearly loved characters again. I'm a big fan of Robin Hobbs writing style, she is my all-time favourite. The characters and their behaviours feel sooo real. If they suffer, I suffer with them. I pity them when they are hurt or lonely. I wish for a happy end for some and the most horrible, miserable ending for others. I lack the words to describe how much Hobb is able to make me feel for her characters. She doesn't just tell us how someone feels. But she shows it through their behaviours, with little gestures, a quick look, a blush, an angry comment. The characters feel unique and their behaviours feel very consistent with their personality and backround story. If something doesn't make sense, there is usually a reason why it happend or why someone behaved that way (although maybe not in this book, but some other following). If you like a character driven story in which sometimes the small things have a bigger impact than the big ones, if you can stomach your main character suffering a lot of times, if you don't mind having a lot of questions by the end of the book (of which some might only be answered several books later), then this is the right book for you. You will regret it from time to time, but also be very happy about it;)
20 years in the reading. This book is about 20 years in the reading. I first started reading Assassin's Apprentice in 2001 when on holiday with my parents. But for whatever reason I only got a few chapters in. Since then this book, asking with its various sequels has become one of the corner stones of Fantasy. It's just one of those books that any self respecting Fantasy fan has to have read or at least had on their TBR for forever and a day. Obviously it's been on my TBR (to at least try again) for 20 years, and I've finally got around to it! Am I disappointed? Did the wait diminish my enjoyment? Does it live up to the hype? To the first two of these questions, the answer is an easy, Heck No! To the last one, the answer is a assured Heck Yes! This book feels like it spans the gap between traditional fantasy and some of the modern fantasy we see published today, while at in your faux-medieval civilization, it brings different things to the table then what you might expect. It doesn't say away from putting your protagonist through hell, and I think its only a shame that the tension is slightly lessened because you know he might survive, as there are at least two future books featuring the character. Whether he keeps all his senses by book three however is highly debatable!
This book changed my way of looking at fantasy, and I am so sad that I only stumble upon it now. It is such an easy read and the storytelling is marvellous. And will give a short spoiler alert review here. When I was first introduced to the Six Duchies and the royal family and Fitz I thought that there is no way in hell I was going to remember all of the needed information. But man seeing this kid grow in Buckeep and slowly but surely become a very heart and moral-driven assassin is fantastic. The Wit side of it and the relationship he has with Nosy and Smithy are what make this story one all humankind can relate to and it is done brilliantly. The bastard trope was one I did not look forward to, but it just fits perfectly into the story and I commend it for that, 5 Stars...
Ich bin gespalten
Assassins's Apprentice wird aus der Sicht von Fitz erzählt, einem Bastard am königlichen Hof, der erst im Stall und dann als Assassine ausgebildet wird. Die Welt, das Königreich und vor allem seine Beziehung zu den unterschiedlichen Charakteren am Hof fängt Robin Hobb extrem präzise und mit all ihren Facetten ein – keine seiner Beziehungen ist einfach oder straight forward, denn alle am Hof haben andere Interessen und Loyalitäten. Was ich am Buch sehr mochte, war dieses fein gewobene Netz aus Charakteren, das sich immer weiter aufbaute. Gerade zum Ende hin wurde es durch dieses Zusammenspiel auch sehr spannend. Robin Hobb schreibt außerdem sehr schön, klar, aber poetisch und scheut sich nicht, auch manchmal nicht alles noch dreimal zu erklären, sodass man immer etwas neues entdecken kann. Damit komme ich aber zu den Dingen, mit denen ich mich schwergetan habe: Der Schreibstil, die Sprache, passt einfach nicht zu dem kleinen Jungen im Buch, der gerade erst schreiben lernt und sich am Hof zurechtfindet. Auch, wenn das Buch aus der Retrospektive geschrieben ist, hat mich das immer wieder rausgeworfen, weil es für mich sehr viel Distanz zu Fitz als Charakter erzeugt hat. Außerdem hatte ich das Gefühl, viel vom Buch findet in seinem Kopf statt. Ich hätte mir manchmal mehr Show und weniger Tell gewünscht, einfach mehr Szenen, in denen er mit anderen interagiert, die vielleicht auch nicht die wichtigsten Personen in seinem Leben dort sind – wie eine Lektion beim Kämpfen lernen aussieht, wie ihm Schreiben beigebracht wird... in der Perspektive, aus der es erzält wird, ergibt diese Prioritätensetzung zwar Sinn, aber sie hat für mich dazu beigetragen, dass das Buch sich anfühlt, als würde kaum etwas passieren. So hat sich für mich lange keine Spannung entwickelt und ich musste mich ziemlich durchkämpfen. Außerdem habe ich mich mit dem Worldbuilding und Magiesystem etwas schwer getan, weil ich gerne etwas mehr darüber gewusst hätte, um eine Vorstellung zu haben, was möglich ist und was nicht – das mag aber in den nächsten Bänden noch kommen. Alles in alles aber kann ich das Buch empfehlen für alle, die Spaß an Sprache haben und Wert auf gut ausgearbeitete Charaktere legen. Wer gerne etwas mehr Action braucht oder viel Wert auf ein hartes Magiesystem legt, ist hier vermutlich falsch.
3.5 stars And I definetly can see why people give this book five star ratings, but it did not click with me as I thought it would. I just read the last page and it feels like an okay read, but I have a feeling that I will think back often to this book and maybe edit my rating into more stars. If you want to read a fast paced assasins story with action scenes, better seek out for books from anthony ryan, brent weeks or mark lawrence. This book here is more like lies of lock lamora (lynch) or name of the wind (rothfuss), it really feels like a Tale the narrator tells you at a campfire and I really needed some time to get into that prose. It was a good read, it was nothing special or mindblowing with a twist, but fantasy books doesn't always need that, this was a book which really immersed you into a fantasy tale with well written characters. To be honest I had an urge to read this as it is so often praised like a must-read in the fantasy section, therefore I maybe had some higher expectations. What I really enjoyed were the Illustrations and the whole binding from the 25th anniversary Illustrated Edition. Bookcovers do matter and I really don't get why there are not more illustrated editions on the market. Especially if they are so well done like the ones from M. Villeneuve here. And plus one to the love of dogs praised in this book!
3 stars. [Buddy-read with Giovanna and Sibil] I liked the content of this book: the plot, the characters, the setting,... everything, but the writing. It was far too descriptive, imo, and somehow deprived me of the pleasure of reading, making the narration slow and boring. I found myself skipping the lines looking for dialogues or interesting events, because overall I didn't enjoy it very much. I think this is in part due to the fact that the narrator was telling his memories and not actually taking part in the events. But I must confess that the situation got better through the second part. Two nice persons gave me the power to go on and they were Giovanna and Sibil, and also Lys. I know that she has been looking after us from afar :D I would have thrown the book out the window without you. I just hope that Hobb's recent books aren't so descriptive/boring. In any case, I'm sure I will read the next installment to follow Fitz'story, but not in the immediate future.
Klassische Fantasy vom feinsten!
Es ist ein ruhiges Buch, wenn man an epische Fantasy denkt und Schlachten oder magische Schwerter oder dergleichen erwartet. Nein hier taucht man in das Leben eines 6 jährigen ein welcher von Geburt aus kein einfaches Los gezogen hat. Die Erzählweise der ich-persektive und der daraus limitierte Sicht zwingt eim sich viel selbst zusammen zu reimen. Vieles geschieht ruhig, angedeutet und trotzdem zieht es einem in Bann und man will wissen wie's weitergeht. Wir folgen Fitz von 6 bis ca. 15 oder 16 Jahre alt und wie er zum Assassinen im Auftrag des Königs ausgebildet wird. Wie er Intrigen am Hof navigieren muss und dabei stets wachsam sein muss wem er traut, vor allem da er eine verbotene Magie besitzt, welche es ihm erlaubt einen Bund mit Hunden oder Wölfen einzugehen. Mega! Und bin gespannt wie's weiter geht. Typisch als Auftakt einer Trilogie scheing der erste Band nur ein Vorgeschmack zu sein was Fitz noch alles erwartet. Wer klassische Fantasy mag, sollte dieses Buch mal in Betracht nehmen. Man sagt auch dass das erste Buch noch eher Schwerfällig sei... also mir hats sehr gefallen und hole mir gleich den nächsten. Kann ja demfall nur besser werden 😊👌
I’ve just finished reading this book and I’m speechless. I loved every bit of it. I must admit I was a bit wary when I started reading it because everyone says it’s so sad. It is sad, that’s true, but not to the point that you’re crying the whole time (I only shed a tear twice). All in all, this book was an absolute joy to read and I’m pretty sure I’ll read the whole Realm of the Elderlings saga in time.
3,5 Stars Okay, so I really liked this book, especially the last few chapters! So why only this rating … my problem with this book was that we got to know Fitz at a really young age and I liked how we saw him grow up. But after some time I hoped he would grow faster. The writing was amazing but at some points, the pacing was just a bit too slow. Still, I'm really excited to read the next book and can't wait to go back into the world of Fitz's.

Die Geschichte wird sehr langsam und ausführlich aus der Sicht von dem jungen Bastard Fitz erzählt der rückblickend sein Leben reflektiert. Wir erfahren viel über das Leben am Hof, die verschiedenen Charaktere, Fitz Ausbildung und die mit dem Bastardsein einhergehenden Probleme. Der Fantasy Anteil ist recht gering, es gibt ,,the Wit“ und ,,the Skill“ als magische Kräfte sowie eine drohende Bedrohung die es zu bekämpfen gilt. Vor allem geht es in diesem Buch aber um Macht und Intrigen und diese damit einhergehenden Schwierigkeiten fand ich sehr interessant. Robin Hobb schafft es erstaunlich gut einzigartige Charaktere zu erschaffen, besonders mochte ich dabei Chade, Burrich und the Fool. Die Kapitel waren recht lang und teilweise war mir die Erzählweise etwas zu ausschweifend. Zum Ende hin wurde es dann aber nochmal richtig spannend und ich freue mich schon sehr die Reihe bald fortzusetzen und bin gespannt wie es mit Fitz weitergeht.
Wow! This book left me speechless!
As I said, speechless! This book isn't just insanely beautifully worded, but the characters and their relationships and motives are so immaculately crafted, I don't know how the author did it. You just know behind every action there is a reason why someone did what they did and if it's just their personality shining through. The ending of this book especially left me in awe. That was a wild ride of emotions. I can't really say anything more or I'll spoil the experience for future readers. One warning, this book is tough on dog lovers, although ultimately this book is for you. You just have to trust me on this and hate me at times for it. It'll be worth it, I promise.

This is a chonky boi and so much happens but its like a shit ton of tiny things and only one big event at the end and I love it but I'm also kinda overwhelmed because I can't say what will be important and what isn't and yeah.. I can't really say much because I have so many feelings but very few coherent thoughts about this book. Looking forward to continueing this series though ^^"
Great start to an epic journey.
I already read all 16 books of the realm of the elderlings, so this is now my second read. On my first read I was not so sure about this book. I did not like Fitz as the main character and got confused about who is who and what is happening. But on the second read it was so much better! I know where the story will go, and I'm just happy to meet so many dearly loved characters again. I'm a big fan of Robin Hobbs writing style, she is my all-time favourite. The characters and their behaviours feel sooo real. If they suffer, I suffer with them. I pity them when they are hurt or lonely. I wish for a happy end for some and the most horrible, miserable ending for others. I lack the words to describe how much Hobb is able to make me feel for her characters. She doesn't just tell us how someone feels. But she shows it through their behaviours, with little gestures, a quick look, a blush, an angry comment. The characters feel unique and their behaviours feel very consistent with their personality and backround story. If something doesn't make sense, there is usually a reason why it happend or why someone behaved that way (although maybe not in this book, but some other following). If you like a character driven story in which sometimes the small things have a bigger impact than the big ones, if you can stomach your main character suffering a lot of times, if you don't mind having a lot of questions by the end of the book (of which some might only be answered several books later), then this is the right book for you. You will regret it from time to time, but also be very happy about it;)
20 years in the reading. This book is about 20 years in the reading. I first started reading Assassin's Apprentice in 2001 when on holiday with my parents. But for whatever reason I only got a few chapters in. Since then this book, asking with its various sequels has become one of the corner stones of Fantasy. It's just one of those books that any self respecting Fantasy fan has to have read or at least had on their TBR for forever and a day. Obviously it's been on my TBR (to at least try again) for 20 years, and I've finally got around to it! Am I disappointed? Did the wait diminish my enjoyment? Does it live up to the hype? To the first two of these questions, the answer is an easy, Heck No! To the last one, the answer is a assured Heck Yes! This book feels like it spans the gap between traditional fantasy and some of the modern fantasy we see published today, while at in your faux-medieval civilization, it brings different things to the table then what you might expect. It doesn't say away from putting your protagonist through hell, and I think its only a shame that the tension is slightly lessened because you know he might survive, as there are at least two future books featuring the character. Whether he keeps all his senses by book three however is highly debatable!
This book changed my way of looking at fantasy, and I am so sad that I only stumble upon it now. It is such an easy read and the storytelling is marvellous. And will give a short spoiler alert review here. When I was first introduced to the Six Duchies and the royal family and Fitz I thought that there is no way in hell I was going to remember all of the needed information. But man seeing this kid grow in Buckeep and slowly but surely become a very heart and moral-driven assassin is fantastic. The Wit side of it and the relationship he has with Nosy and Smithy are what make this story one all humankind can relate to and it is done brilliantly. The bastard trope was one I did not look forward to, but it just fits perfectly into the story and I commend it for that, 5 Stars...

Assassins's Apprentice wird aus der Sicht von Fitz erzählt, einem Bastard am königlichen Hof, der erst im Stall und dann als Assassine ausgebildet wird. Die Welt, das Königreich und vor allem seine Beziehung zu den unterschiedlichen Charakteren am Hof fängt Robin Hobb extrem präzise und mit all ihren Facetten ein – keine seiner Beziehungen ist einfach oder straight forward, denn alle am Hof haben andere Interessen und Loyalitäten. Was ich am Buch sehr mochte, war dieses fein gewobene Netz aus Charakteren, das sich immer weiter aufbaute. Gerade zum Ende hin wurde es durch dieses Zusammenspiel auch sehr spannend. Robin Hobb schreibt außerdem sehr schön, klar, aber poetisch und scheut sich nicht, auch manchmal nicht alles noch dreimal zu erklären, sodass man immer etwas neues entdecken kann. Damit komme ich aber zu den Dingen, mit denen ich mich schwergetan habe: Der Schreibstil, die Sprache, passt einfach nicht zu dem kleinen Jungen im Buch, der gerade erst schreiben lernt und sich am Hof zurechtfindet. Auch, wenn das Buch aus der Retrospektive geschrieben ist, hat mich das immer wieder rausgeworfen, weil es für mich sehr viel Distanz zu Fitz als Charakter erzeugt hat. Außerdem hatte ich das Gefühl, viel vom Buch findet in seinem Kopf statt. Ich hätte mir manchmal mehr Show und weniger Tell gewünscht, einfach mehr Szenen, in denen er mit anderen interagiert, die vielleicht auch nicht die wichtigsten Personen in seinem Leben dort sind – wie eine Lektion beim Kämpfen lernen aussieht, wie ihm Schreiben beigebracht wird... in der Perspektive, aus der es erzält wird, ergibt diese Prioritätensetzung zwar Sinn, aber sie hat für mich dazu beigetragen, dass das Buch sich anfühlt, als würde kaum etwas passieren. So hat sich für mich lange keine Spannung entwickelt und ich musste mich ziemlich durchkämpfen. Außerdem habe ich mich mit dem Worldbuilding und Magiesystem etwas schwer getan, weil ich gerne etwas mehr darüber gewusst hätte, um eine Vorstellung zu haben, was möglich ist und was nicht – das mag aber in den nächsten Bänden noch kommen. Alles in alles aber kann ich das Buch empfehlen für alle, die Spaß an Sprache haben und Wert auf gut ausgearbeitete Charaktere legen. Wer gerne etwas mehr Action braucht oder viel Wert auf ein hartes Magiesystem legt, ist hier vermutlich falsch.
3.5 stars And I definetly can see why people give this book five star ratings, but it did not click with me as I thought it would. I just read the last page and it feels like an okay read, but I have a feeling that I will think back often to this book and maybe edit my rating into more stars. If you want to read a fast paced assasins story with action scenes, better seek out for books from anthony ryan, brent weeks or mark lawrence. This book here is more like lies of lock lamora (lynch) or name of the wind (rothfuss), it really feels like a Tale the narrator tells you at a campfire and I really needed some time to get into that prose. It was a good read, it was nothing special or mindblowing with a twist, but fantasy books doesn't always need that, this was a book which really immersed you into a fantasy tale with well written characters. To be honest I had an urge to read this as it is so often praised like a must-read in the fantasy section, therefore I maybe had some higher expectations. What I really enjoyed were the Illustrations and the whole binding from the 25th anniversary Illustrated Edition. Bookcovers do matter and I really don't get why there are not more illustrated editions on the market. Especially if they are so well done like the ones from M. Villeneuve here. And plus one to the love of dogs praised in this book!
3 stars. [Buddy-read with Giovanna and Sibil] I liked the content of this book: the plot, the characters, the setting,... everything, but the writing. It was far too descriptive, imo, and somehow deprived me of the pleasure of reading, making the narration slow and boring. I found myself skipping the lines looking for dialogues or interesting events, because overall I didn't enjoy it very much. I think this is in part due to the fact that the narrator was telling his memories and not actually taking part in the events. But I must confess that the situation got better through the second part. Two nice persons gave me the power to go on and they were Giovanna and Sibil, and also Lys. I know that she has been looking after us from afar :D I would have thrown the book out the window without you. I just hope that Hobb's recent books aren't so descriptive/boring. In any case, I'm sure I will read the next installment to follow Fitz'story, but not in the immediate future.
Klassische Fantasy vom feinsten!
Es ist ein ruhiges Buch, wenn man an epische Fantasy denkt und Schlachten oder magische Schwerter oder dergleichen erwartet. Nein hier taucht man in das Leben eines 6 jährigen ein welcher von Geburt aus kein einfaches Los gezogen hat. Die Erzählweise der ich-persektive und der daraus limitierte Sicht zwingt eim sich viel selbst zusammen zu reimen. Vieles geschieht ruhig, angedeutet und trotzdem zieht es einem in Bann und man will wissen wie's weitergeht. Wir folgen Fitz von 6 bis ca. 15 oder 16 Jahre alt und wie er zum Assassinen im Auftrag des Königs ausgebildet wird. Wie er Intrigen am Hof navigieren muss und dabei stets wachsam sein muss wem er traut, vor allem da er eine verbotene Magie besitzt, welche es ihm erlaubt einen Bund mit Hunden oder Wölfen einzugehen. Mega! Und bin gespannt wie's weiter geht. Typisch als Auftakt einer Trilogie scheing der erste Band nur ein Vorgeschmack zu sein was Fitz noch alles erwartet. Wer klassische Fantasy mag, sollte dieses Buch mal in Betracht nehmen. Man sagt auch dass das erste Buch noch eher Schwerfällig sei... also mir hats sehr gefallen und hole mir gleich den nächsten. Kann ja demfall nur besser werden 😊👌
I’ve just finished reading this book and I’m speechless. I loved every bit of it. I must admit I was a bit wary when I started reading it because everyone says it’s so sad. It is sad, that’s true, but not to the point that you’re crying the whole time (I only shed a tear twice). All in all, this book was an absolute joy to read and I’m pretty sure I’ll read the whole Realm of the Elderlings saga in time.
3,5 Stars Okay, so I really liked this book, especially the last few chapters! So why only this rating … my problem with this book was that we got to know Fitz at a really young age and I liked how we saw him grow up. But after some time I hoped he would grow faster. The writing was amazing but at some points, the pacing was just a bit too slow. Still, I'm really excited to read the next book and can't wait to go back into the world of Fitz's.
