About the book

NOW AVAILBLE IN A SPECIAL NEW TENTH ANNIVERSARY EDITION

The New York Times bestselling final installment of Jeff VanderMeer's wildy popular Southern Reach Trilogy.

It is winter in Area X, the mysterious wilderness that has defied explanation for thirty years, rebuffing expedition after expedition, refusing to reveal its secrets. As Area X expands, the agency tasked with investigating and overseeing it--the Southern Reach--has collapsed on itself in confusion. Now one last, desperate team crosses the border, determined to reach a remote island that may hold the answers they've been seeking. If they fail, the outer world is in peril.

Meanwhile, Acceptance tunnels ever deeper into the circumstances surrounding the creation of Area X--what initiated this unnatural upheaval? Among the many who have tried, who has gotten close to understanding Area X--and who may have been corrupted by it?

In this New York Times bestselling final installment of Jeff VanderMeer's Southern Reach trilogy, the mysteries of Area X may be solved, but their consequences and implications are no less profound--or terrifying.

For a book this short it's amazing that it took me a week to read. I read books that were way longer in a couple of days. With these books I just need to concentrate so much on reading and understanding, it takes time and I can't really read more than like 50 pages in a row without getting tired. Acceptance was a good middle ground between Annihilation and Authority. While Annihilation really interested me and I was super into all the creepy stuff, Authority was 80% boring and 20% kinda creepy. Acceptance has many different parts of the story that are connected through the Area X. I really enjoyed that there was more to learn about everything, even though I now feel like the Directors perspective was kinda unnecessary overall. I really enjoyed reading the Lighhouse Keepers view and getting more info about how the Area X came to be, but I still got bored at some parts and wished I was reading something that pulled me in more. I still didn't really care about the characters, but I enjoyed the answering of so many open questions. The ending was a bit too fast for me and I wish it had been a but more rounded, but it still very much fits with the story. All in all it's a good ending to this story, even though I do kinda think this series shouldn't have been going past Annihilation.

I never do this but this book managed to wear me down. Yes I gave up on this. (after 50%) Yes I read a summary to know what happened. And I have no regrets! I never got into the triology maybe because of Jeff's writing style but most likely because most of the time absolutely nothing happens. I actually fell asleep during the second book and the story just wasn't worth it for me reading the last book. I know many people love this triology but especially after finding out how it would have ended I'm glad I did't waste my time finishing it.
