Bin begeistert! Ein Klassiker im komplett neuen und absolut genialen Gewand!
Wenn eine Meerjungfrau auf Piraten trifft und daraus eine mega spannende Story mit tollen Twists und der romantischsten 1st Kussszene ever wird, dann bin ich verliebt!! Und das ist ein Debut-Roman!?!? Excuse me , how? Respekt vor dieser Leistung! PS: Laut Autorin eine Dilogie und nach dem Ende, geht es auch nicht anders. Die Geschichte dreht sich um Celeste, eine Sirene (Meerjungfrau), dritte Tochter und Prinzessin des Königshauses Straia, die sich nach Abenteuern sehnt und extrem neugierig auf Menschen ist und damit ihr Schicksal eine schlimme Wendung nimmt. Ich habe oft gelesen, dass es eine Kopie der Disney-Erzählung sei und muss sagen: absoluter Bullshit. Spoiler! Das Einzige was gleich ist, ist die Neugierde auf Menschen, ein Hund, sie redet nicht (kann aber) und eine Seehexe, die ihr zu Beinen verhilft und dafür natürlich eine Gegenleistung erwartet. Spoiler Ende! Der Rest ist aber komplett anders und ich war im Nachgang mega irritiert über diese unfairen Rezensionen. Die Story ist deutlich ernster, gewalttätiger, kreativer, oft nicht vorhersehbar und viel, viel spannender. Auch worauf die Story zum Ende hin hinausläuft ist komplett anders. Habe dieses Ende niemals erwartet und konnte vor lauter Spannung kaum aufhören zu lesen. Wir haben hier zudem einen richtig klasse umgesetzten „found Family“ Trope sowie eine der absolut schönsten Kussszenen, die ich je gelesen habe. Natürlich werden auch ein paar Klischees bedient, aber im angenehmen Rahmen. Das World Building war insgesamt super und die Charaktere, auch Neben, sind toll ausgearbeitet und habe ich schnell in mein Herz geschlossen. Unsere FMC fand ich super realistisch beschrieben, vor allem in ihren Sehnsüchten und dem stetig inneren Konflikt. Ihre Charakterentwicklung fand ich absolut klasse. ❤️ Der Plot in diesem Piraten-Meerjungfrau-Setting, das schon sehr oft umgeschrieben und neu interpretiert wurde, war sehr kreativ und in vielem sehr neu - wie gesagt das Ende war mehr als unerwartet Und kein Spice - hat das Buch auch absolut nicht nötig. Wer keine Angst vor englischen Büchern hat: klare Empfehlung für YA Romantasy-Leser ❤️ Ich derweil muss jetzt auf Band 2 warten 😭😭
Ich habe dieses Buch absolut geliebt! Es fiel mir wirklich schwer, es aus der Hand zu legen, und jetzt kann ich es kaum erwarten, bis der zweite Band erscheint. Die Slow-Burn-Romance war so gut – ich habe geliebt, wie er sie geneckt hat. Die beiden sind einfach füreinander bestimmt. Ich liebe auch all die anderen Charaktere in diesem Buch – man spürt die Liebe und Freundschaft zwischen ihnen richtig. Das verleiht der ganzen Geschichte so viel Wärme und Tiefe. Und die Namen der Hauptcharaktere? Einfach perfekt. Celeste und Raiden 😍 Ich bin komplett verliebt.

Besides that: it's a Little Mermaid retelling, combining both aspects from the Hans Kristian Andersen tale and the Disney movie. There were some scenes at the beginning of this book that felt almost too familiar because I've seen them on my tv hundres of times when watching the Disney version. However, we have siren warriors and pirates in here, and around the 40% mark, the author finally manages to put her own spin to the tale. But still, I wasn't fully into the story until the end. The reason why Celeste couldn't talk was stupid and when she started talking again, it was super cringe? There's a lot of drama and back-and-forth on who is on which side, and it got really repetitive. The ending was rushed, and how Celeste is able to save the day was unrealistic. Now, this is not a bad book per se. It's a debut novel, there is some charm about it - like how the author really created her own world and characters and plot and only "copied" the starting point from the fairytale that inspired her. But there is also room for improvement. I feel like the pacing could have been better, less drama in the end, more relationsip building, a little bit more explanations. At this point, I am not sure if I will read the sequel, but overall I am not completely opposed to reading something by this author again.

Little mermaid retelling meets pirates of the Caribbean In the beginning I thought this would be a very classic, close to the original retelling of the tale of the little mermaid… boy o boy was I in for a surprise! The story payed homage to both to Disney’s Ariel as well as the original tale by Hans Christian Andersen. I don’t even want to say too much about the plot, because the less you know the more you’ll enjoy it I’d say. Just this much: If you watched Kpop demon hunters and enjoyed it, you‘ll probably enjoy this one too! In my mind Raiden = Jinu
