About the book

Before she wrote Little Women, Louisa May Alcott told this story of a ninteenth-century girl finding her way in society.

In this sequel to Eight Cousins, Rose Campbell returns to the “Aunt Hill” after two years of traveling around the world. Suddenly, she is surrounded by male admirers, all expecting her to marry them. But before she marries anyone, Rose is determined to establish herself as an independent young woman. Besides, she suspects that some of her friends like her more her money than for herself. How can Rose tell who her real friends are? Is there anyone she can count on?

Weirdly glad about the bad german translation I read this book in for the first nine times. It gave me the chance to re-read and re-discover my all-time-favourite book as though it was my first time reading it. Through a decade of knowing it, I was able to grow up with Rose and her/ Uncle Alec‘s Values and, with each re-read discover something new in the story read with a new perspective. Now I am all sunshine and smiles because I finished this series again and can’t wait for my next re-read to make me this happy.

What a great story. This is among my favorite classics for sure. I enjoyed Eighth Cousins but this is way better.
