I had a mixed experience with „A Fate Inked in Blood“. Loved the narration, didn‘t care for the story and heroine.
„A Fate Inked in Blood“ offers a rich athmosphere, the audiobook beautifully narrated. I genuinely enjoyed the immersive feeling the narration created and the language used to tell the story. Unfortunately, the story itself left me largely indifferent. The overarching plot, structured around a series of challenges the herione must overcome, felt predictable. Major plot twists were easy to foresee, which made the main character‘s persistent obliviousness frustrating - especially given that the story is told entirely from her perspective. While I can appreciate a protagonist being less perceptive than the reader, here it made the character seem overly naive. A significant portion of the story revolves around the heroine being used as a pawn by men. Although she recognizes this dynamic and the injustice of it, she remains compliant and - disappointingly - seems ok with her role for much of the book. While this compliance fits her established traits and motivations, it is simply not the type of character I enjoy. I prefer stories featuring women who are more empowered and less resigned to being tools to others, especially in a world already full of marginalized and suppressed voices.
