First: I do recognize that this is (I believe) YA and therefore I am not the target group as I am an adult woman. This book very much reads like a typical YA book (which I do not like, so for YA fans: maybe take this review with a grain of salt). The book had way too many plot holes (example: veery minor <spoiler> It was said that Kate could not swim, when she tried to reach the boat, just a few pages later, she suddenly swims through the current to the side of the river??? Make it make sense. </spoiler> or another one: def bigger <spoiler> I am seriously meant to believe, that from all those things Sophia stole for the ball, not one single noble recognized their own stuff they bought for the ball? Like the dress gets explained, but one of these items should be something someone explicitly wanted to look a certain way and therefore be recognizable! </spoiler>) and it was a bit cringey. The characters felt hollow and even after the first half of the book, I could not connect to any of them. The romance was just not for me, both couples (as I understand the main couples meant to be) had this "love at first sight", which I am not a fan of either. And again, I'm meant to believe that <spoiler> Sophia and Sebastian were in LOVE after talking for 2 minutes? Like, that is a crush at best, not love. </spoiler>Just overall, this book is not for me and when reading through the description of the 2nd and 3rd book, I don't think series is worth it (for me personally).
