Feeling blessed and cultured as I am happy to declare (just to myself) that I've had the pleasure to read my very first Shakespeare play! Bonus points because it was voluntary and bound by no academic obligation! And what a joy it was! "O wunderbar, wunderbar und höchst wunderbarlich / wunderbar, und nochmal wunderbar und über alle / Wunder weg." My fellow compatriots and I decided to saddle our literary horses and adorn ourselves with our finest and most sophisticated performing attire to host a Shakespearian Cold Read Eve. Armed with snacks of the culinary heavens (watermelon, tahin chocolate cookies and an amuse bouche of Spiderman ice tea) we ventured out into Fortuna's inviting greenery to claim our place on Earth (and our nearby park of choice), so that the grass would become our stage and the trees our captive audience. As such I must for once disagree with my most favourite Monsieur Melancholy when he said: "Ich danke euch für geleistete Gesellschaft, aber / meiner Treu, ich wäre ebenso gern allein gewesen." , because I am so glad I got to share this fever dream chaos in excellent company! While I found it strange that some of the most interesting plot points, such as Oliver's redemption, Herzog Friedrich's turn towards God and people who had previously not properly spoken to eachother agreeing to marriage instead of a first date, were all handled offscreen, the banter and witty conversations between the characters were an absolute delight! "Nein, der Teufel hole das Spaßen!" Like what do you mean it wasn't Gen Z that invented humour? "Ei, es ist doch hübsch, traurig zu sein und nichts / zu sagen." "Ei, so ist es auch hübsch, ein Türpfosten zu /sein." The real enemy in this play is compulsory heterosexuality and I will not elaborate safe to say that there is a serious lack of Jacques/Orlando and Celia/Rosalinde fanfiction on AO3. Please, oh poets of this mortal plane, fill the void! "Aber liebe keinen Mann in wahren Ernst, auch zum Spaß nicht weiter." Thank you William for dropping some more than relatable and scarily relevant statements such as "O wie voll Disteln ist diese Werktagswelt!" One could say, it was as we liked it. "Wahrhaftig, du wirst gebraten, wie ein / schlecht geröstet Ein, nur an einer Seite."
