A gripping psychological thriller set at sea from an essential mystery writer in the tradition of Agatha Christie.

In this tightly wound, enthralling story reminiscent of Agatha Christie’s works, Lo Blacklock, a journalist who writes for a travel magazine, has just been given the assignment of a lifetime: a week on a luxury cruise with only a handful of cabins. The sky is clear, the waters calm, and the veneered, select guests jovial as the exclusive cruise ship, the Aurora, begins her voyage in the picturesque North Sea. At first, Lo’s stay is nothing but pleasant: the cabins are plush, the dinner parties are sparkling, and the guests are elegant. But as the week wears on, frigid winds whip the deck, gray skies fall, and Lo witnesses what she can only describe as a dark and terrifying nightmare: a woman being thrown overboard. The problem? All passengers remain accounted for—and so, the ship sails on as if nothing has happened, despite Lo’s desperate attempts to convey that something (or someone) has gone terribly, terribly wrong…

With surprising twists, spine-tingling turns, and a setting that proves as uncomfortably claustrophobic as it is eerily beautiful, Ruth Ware offers up another taut and intense read in The Woman in Cabin 10—one that will leave even the most sure-footed reader restlessly uneasy long after the last page is turned.

I didn’t read „In a Dark, Dark Wood“ by Ruth Ware yet so I can’t compare „Woman in Cabin 10“ with it. My review is about the German version of the book and I really enjoyed reading it! Lo Blacklock is a Travel Journalist who gets invited to a cruise 🚢 of the „Aurora“ - a really exclusive cruise ship which offers only 10 cabins. On her first evening aboard the „Aurora“ she gets to know a young woman & after hearing a suspicious noise coming out from Cabin 10 the same night Lo is convinced that there’s a murderer on the cruise ship. The whole plot is awesome and the German translation was well done so it was really nice and easy to read. I had to finish it almost straightaway because I felt thrilled about how the story is going to continue. To be honest I can’t really understand the ‚bad‘ or average reviews on „Woman in Cabin 10“. I didn’t expect it but to my surprise it caught me instantly and I’m glad I read it! 😊

Das Buch zieht sich sehr, die Spannung fehlt an vielen Stellen und die Geschichte ist letztendlich sehr weit hergeholt.

A closed-room mystery with Girl on the Train vibes that I absolutely loved! Laura, the MC, keeps getting herself deeper into trouble with her drinking and her bad decisions, and while there weren't any crazy plot twists, it did keep me at the edge of my seat and it was hard to put down. And I must say, I loved the ending.

Great book, I enjoyed it a lot and would read it again

Hallo ihr Lieben, dieses Buch war grauenhaft. Absolut grauenhaft.

3.5/5 It becomes a bit frustrating towards the end, but it was overall enjoyable.

Spannendes Buch, das ich nicht aus den Händen legen konnte. Leider war mir die Protagonistin nicht sympathisch und "überrascht" wurde ich auch nicht. 3,5/5

The Woman in Cabin 10 is my second Ruth Ware novel. I think this book was just as frustrating as The Turn of the Key though the ending of this was marginally better. The lead character, Lo Blacklock, was super unlikeable. Truly toxic personality wise. She was super grating, impulsive, a poor judge of character and not very smart. I guess Ruth likes to write her heroines as flawed, insecure and heavy drinkers. I mean where's the charm here? I wouldn't want to be in a relationship with this sort of individual even if they resembled Liv Tyler. The investigating bit was fun but around a fifth of the book was spent primarily within the thoughts of Lo that it really dragged. The reveals here weren't as explosive as the ones in The Turn of the Key but as I've said earlier, the ending was more enjoyable. I have read the trade paperback while listening to the audiobook. The narration by Imogen Church was superb. This will be the second Ruth Ware book that is a miss for me however, I think I will read more of her work. Maybe something will click in the future.
