2.5 stars Unfortunately the conclusion to the series was lacklustre. I didn't find it nearly as enjoyable as the first book with our introduction to the interesting magic system or the second one where I was fully invested into the relationship of both Tea and Fox. The main problem I have with the series are the many scenes where some great discovery or mystery is explained to us in great detail through some monologues of the villain or protagonists - it has a very "telling instead of showing" kind of feeling which is a shame. The whole "conflict" itself I couldn't get behind at all, I still don't understand Tea's sudden motivation to do the things she did and the villains are cartoonish and not fleshed out at all. I also never really got a good grasp of the world. New characters pop up and are killed off or serve to explain things to us in long history lessons that get old very quick. I still feel like picking up Rin Chupeco's other novels though. She does excel at the whole writing horror aspect so it would be a nice read for Halloween.
