Initially I put 4,5 stars for this, but I can’t do that to this book. While I was writing this review, I realised that it deserves the five stars. So I changed it. Okay, where do I start? This book made me feel things. Good thing, bad things, sad things, all of them. I love it when a book does this. I was so unsatisfied with the ending. I can’t even tell you. I fell for Luc pretty quickly, probably because I’ve seen him being romanticised by pinterest, but I have to say that I wanted him and Addie to end up together. Like, for real, this time. And him telling her he loved her, telling her he LIED, my heart broke. I wanted her to love him. And the fact that the ending was sooo open? Yeah, I hated that. But I loved the story. Idk why, I didn’t read as fast as I probably would have, had I had more time in the last week, but the story was very capturing. I loved the different parts with different pieces of art, they were a nice little detail. Also, can we talk about how Taylor Swift songs are basically written for this book? All too well, exile, right where you left me. They hit so hard if you have Addie and her story in her mind. I’m listening to all to well as I’m writing this and I could cry. The whole plot twist with Henry writing the book was crazy. I know it’s a story but every time this happens in a book, I stop and think if maybe it all really happened, the characters are real and Henry actually wrote the book. But then again, there IS a name on the cover, so idk… My theory is still that Addie didn’t dream her stranger up when she was young. I don’t believe that she’s the one who created Luc and his appearance. I think that he was there, he was real, and that’s when he fell in love with her. I’d love it if it was really like this. This book is one of those books where you want there to be a second part but also know that there’s probably not going to be one. Ughhh! The invisible Life of Addie LaRue is that type of novel that gives you so many important messages, quotes and lessons. It kind of feels like a guide on how to survive your 20s/ your life. It’s mystical, it’s a work of art, it’s sad, it’s melancholic and it’s amazing.

Genius idea for a book!

SPOILERS AHEAD!!! It made me appreciate life. Incredibly beautiful writing, and a genius idea for a book. I found it really interesting following her in time. Her relationship with Luc really surprised my, just like her sacrifice for Henry. And the vengeful ending, are you kidding me !!!!

This book destroyed me so thoroughly but I enjoyed every second of it.

Luc: "Take your echoes and pretend they are a voice"

If you liked "Go as a river" you will LOVE this! This was written so beautifully and reads like a remix of a poem and a soundtrack. It is generally slow paced I would say. It takes a little while to get into the story, but as more and more pieces fall into place, you completely emerge into Addies world (for me, this happened about a third of the way in). Addie is rebellious and a little peculiar, and she wants to be her own master. So when she is forced into marriage, she makes a deal that will strip her of everything she has - but her humanity she refuses to let go of. ~ But the sorrow has faded, replaced by a stubborn rage, and she resolves to kindle it, to shield and nurture the flame until it takes far more than a single breath to blow it out. ~

Did I end this book or did this book just end me

While I don't think the book fulfills all of it's potential, it's really easy to feel for and with Addie. About half of the book is set in her past, but it's more of a backstory of testing out the limits of the deal, finding things that give her strenghth and her relationship with Luc, the demon who "cursed" her. A lot of the emotional core is developed there, too. The actual plot is more in the vein of a contemporary story, maybe part romance, but more chill and subtle. A lot of the book actually feels quite relaxed: We spend some time hanging out with Addie, getting to know a normal day of her life, until the story becomes more about Henry. It didn't drag the book down in any way and I felt it was well done, but their relationship was my least favourite part of the book. Them just beeing cute together didn't make for an exiting experience, but it showed well why they enjoyed each others company. Some aspects of the book are amazing, like Schwab is so good at creating an emotional impact, but the concept of the book leaves room for different directions so it won't be everyone's favourite way of handling the topic. I would have enjoyed more focus on Addie's impact on the art scene and her long life instead on the romance, but I still really enjoyed the book as it was. The very chill atmosphere paired with the raw emotions that come with the story made this quite a unique read.
