Beschreibung

A smart and delightful romantic comedy featuring fabulous female friendships and "a great love story." --Jasmine Guillory, bestselling author of Party of Two Samiah Brooks never thought she would be "that" girl. But a live tweet of a horrific date just revealed the painful truth: she's been catfished by a three-timing jerk of a boyfriend. Suddenly Samiah -- along with his two other "girlfriends," London and Taylor -- have gone viral online. Now the three new besties are making a pact to spend the next six months investing in themselves. No men and no dating. For once Samiah is putting herself first, and that includes finally developing the app she's always dreamed of creating. Which is the exact moment she meets the deliciously sexy Daniel Collins at work. What are the chances? But is Daniel really boyfriend material or is he maybe just a little too good to be true? "A smart, funny digital-age romance about real women living in the real world. Couldn't put it down!" --Abby Jimenez, USA Today bestselling author of The Happy Ever After Playlist

2.5 stars I’d say this was a more or less solid read. I liked the MC, Samiah, and how she kicked ass (her way, not in the YA fantasy I-stab-everyone way I’m used to) and being a pretty great person overall. Too great, to be honest. She seemed so … polished. I actually found one of her friends, Taylor, to be far more interesting with a lot more edges to her, but oh well. Another plus regarding this book is the important topics it talks about, like how women don’t need a partner to be complete (even if having one is nice), how girl-on-girl hate is such a big no (this was very well done here, I liked Samiah’s new friends) and how important it is to empower young women in general and young women of color in particular. But I did have some issues with this book. For example, the repetitiveness of important topics. I felt like a student listening to a teacher going over the same topic over and over again just to make sure I REALLY got it. Another thing was the exaggerated writing style when it came to the interactions between Daniel and Samiah. Maybe I’m prude or maybe I’ve never met a man with as much appeal as Daniel seems to have, but her reactions to him bordered on ridiculous (come on, can a mere smile really melt panties?) and his reactions to her were so cheesy. And things like ”Her stomach quivered, a shudder rushing through her as his bold assertion triggered an earth-shattering reaction through her bloodstream.” gives me major SJM vibes *shivers* Another thing that didn’t sit well with me was how Daniel’s undercover work never seemed credible to me. Like I never really felt his effort, but he still bitched about the lack of progress regarding the case he worked on. All in all his work didn’t seem to have much impact and was only there for the drama. And the ending? Nah, not my thing at all. If someone betrayed me right after I’ve slept with him I’d be resentful for the rest of my life and would probably haunt him as a ghost. Not only that, he could've put an end to her career and tarnished her reputation even though he knew the pride she takes in her work and her abilities. This should weigh more than having an HEA.

3.5
