Wenig gelungener Mix aus Romanze und Gesellschaftskritik
Puh das Buch hat mich echt enttäuscht. Der erste Teil besteht aus einer Romanze in Südfrankreich zwischen dem Protagonisten und dem Bruder seiner privilegierten Unifreundin. Mir ist es ein Rätsel wie man es schafft auf so vielen Seiten den Figuren null Charakter und Tiefe zu verleihen. Klar ist der Business-Vater gewalttätig und kaltherzig und klar sieht der Love Interest unglaublich gut aus. Im zweiten Teil begleiten wir den Protagonisten ein Jahr später nach London wo die Beziehung allmählich bröckelt. Hier werden gesellschaftliche Fragen zu Rassismus, Klassismus und Diskriminierung aufgeworfen was ein überraschender Kontrast zum ersten Teil war. Aber auch hier schafft es der Autor nicht über Klischees hinaus. Am Ende des Buches bleibe ich ernüchtert und wenig schlauer oder berührter als zuvor zurück. Über Figuren neben dem Protagonisten habe ich nichts persönliches erfahren was über Klischees hinausgehen würde.
