The writing style of Melinda Salisbury is vivid, easy to follow and detailed. It is not too much explained and described , only as much as you need to put yourself well into the story. The characters are complex and very different. Everyone has their own important role in the happenings. The story of Sorrow, concerning her past and future, her fight for a better future and finding herself is told in an interesting way. However, it took a long time to find my way into the story. Only from the last third I found the story really interesting. The many back and forth regarding the intrigue and power games has bored me a lot. What bothered me the most was the way Sorrow was treated. Of course hurdles make a story interesting, if everything was easy it would be boring quickly. But I just felt incredibly sorry for her, and I don't like to read about characters who find it harder and harder to connect & find allies and just get pushed aside. Nevertheless, the story drew me more and more into the spell towards the end, which was also because many confusing issues were resolved and it wasn't so complicated to keep up to date. You could just read more relaxed without having to think three times. Even though I'm not a fan of stories that deal too much with political issues and intrigues, I think I'll buy the #2 book to see how Sorrows story ends.
