There was an ancient miniature golf course choked in weeds alongside the bowling alley. The astroturf had completely rotted away in places. The windmill had one spoke. We looked it over for a minute (both of us had once been avid mini golfers), then continued toward the door.
"By the way," I added. "We're not homeless, we're nomads. Keep your labels straight."

Wie die Welt endet von Will McIntosh Dieses Buch ging mir stellenweise wirklich sehr nahe. Die schleichende Apokalypse unserer Erde war so unheimlich und plausibel, dass ich, wenn ich die jetzige Weltlage sehe, der Meinung bin, dass die „Softe Apokalypse“ (so der original Titel des Romans) bereits begonnen hat. Denn in diesem Buch gibt es keinen Meteoriten-Einschlag oder einen alles vernichtenden Atomkrieg. Das bedrückende an dieser Geschichte ist der Realismus. Denn als erstes wird das Wasser knapp, dann gibt es keine Arbeit mehr, keine Börse und die ganze Zivilisation bewegt sich, wie eine Schafherde zur Schlachtbank, auf das Ende der Welt zu. Immer mit dem Mantra im Kopf, dass sich alles zum besseren wenden wird. Doch ob das bessere Ende ein Happy End wie in diesem Roman wird, wage ich zu bezweifeln. Jetzt bin ich erst einmal down und muss dringend etwas positives lesen.
