Fun and suspenseful return to Nevermoor ✨
I loved returning to the world of Nevermoor with the fourth book in the Morrigan Crow series. These books always feel like home, even though they also explore darker elements. Morrigan agreed to enter an apprenticeship with the obnoxious Wundersmith Ezra Squall, and now she has to navigate her life while secretly learning the wunderous arts from the most wanted man in Nevermoor. But soon enough, Morrigan has bigger problems as she discovers that she has actual living relatives in Nevermoor. And not just anybody but members of the Silverborn, the extremely wealthy elite of the city’s society. Did her Patron Jupiter North know about them? Did he willfully lie to Morrigan? And as if this is not enough, Morrigan and her friends take it upon themselves to investigate a murder that was committed at her newfound aunts’ wedding. As with the previous books, I enjoyed the writing style a lot. It is fun, easy to read, and still witty and full of imagery. We got to meet a lot of well-loved characters - especially Unit 919 - as well as fun new additions. I especially liked the twins, Louis and Lottie, who become new friends of Morrigan. Most of this book is about Mog coming to terms with the knowledge of having living relatives in Nevermoor and how this affects all the different parts of her life. Including the relationship to her Patron Jupiter. I loved that we saw them work through this and come out stronger in the end, even though they both made mistakes along the way. And then there is the murder mystery - Mog’s friend Cadance Blackburn takes up the mantle of wanna-be detective, and all of Unit 919 join in on the investigation. It was fun, it was suspenseful, and while I guessed some part of the conclusion, there were still several surprises at the end.
