Saga Vol. 1 is, at its heart, a Romeo and Juliet story—but wrapped in one of the most imaginative science-fantasy worlds I've ever encountered. Alana and Marko come from two species on opposite sides of a brutal interstellar war. A winged soldier and a horned magician, they should be enemies. Instead, they fall in love and have a daughter, Hazel, making themselves targets for both sides of the conflict. What makes Saga so special is its incredible creativity. Magic and technology coexist, ghosts walk among the living, robot royalty have television screens for heads, and every chapter introduces something new and unexpected. Yet despite all its bizarre and wonderful ideas, the story never loses sight of its emotional core. At the center of everything is a story about love, family, and the human cost of war. The characters feel real, flawed, and deeply relatable, even when they're some of the most alien-looking people imaginable. Fiona Staples' artwork is absolutely stunning. Every page is packed with detail, personality, and imagination, bringing this strange and beautiful universe to life in a way that feels effortless. Saga Vol. 1 is a fantastic beginning to a series that immediately hooked me. It's epic, emotional, funny, heartbreaking, and wonderfully weird all at the same time. If Romeo and Juliet were reimagined as a sprawling science-fantasy adventure across the stars, it might look something like Saga.

You know that feeling after you finish a graphic novel (which took you no time to read) and you want to know how the story continues, but... It's a damn long series? And the price and the time it takes to read it do not add up? I always face this dilemma when I finish a first graphic novel in a series. It was immensely creative - the pictures as well as the story itself. It's sci-fi, but innovative and with lots of space to grow even better. Also, the combination - eternal war, space exploration and young parents - is just brilliant. Read it - but be warned: You will want to know how it continues.
