Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard, Book 1: The Sword of Summer

I just love it! Can't wait for the next book! I hate waiting a year though!

That was so good holy crap! Also Sam is the greatest and I am thankful for her in so many ways.

Banger. Absolutely. Imma get my godchildren these-

I cannot believe I’ve missed out on this book for so long. Characters from all kinds of background, hating on people in power and having a beautiful hero’s journey with someone who is not at all your standard main character. Magnus Chase would be the last you’d think of when thinking of classic hero attributes/characters, but fits so well in this faithless telling. This also just gives way to look at the other beautiful characters in here, which are all treated with so much respect. Appropriate joking with someone’s disability in mind and just the sense that Rick definitely had someone to give insight on sign language and deafness as a whole just fills me with so much warmth. The found family is not only vibes- it’s fully there and in such a beautiful constellation. Romance only in the background, making sure to show the characters and how they work individually as well as in a group. We love a band of outcasts. And we love the not-so-much-husbands-but-definitely-dads-of-Magnus.

I stopped counting how many amazing twist happens just within one chapter. I really like Loki’s appearance and the way Magnus Handels the story. I am so exited for the next part due to the many open questions und teasers made through out. I loved it the whole way through. I still don’t get how Rich Riordan writs so amazing stories cause I’m not in the aimed agegroup but I still look forward to reading all of the other stories he wrote.

This was a lot more fun than I was expecting.

It is just awesome. Honestly i was always interesstet in Mythology. And obviously i loved the Percy Jackson and the Heroes of Olympus Series. I was so excitet for the Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard Series. I was always obsessed with Norse Mythology. But now even more. I loved the Characters. Magnus character is one of the most realistc character i ever read. His feelings really are so connectable with your one feelings. It feels real. It is just my opinion. Hearth is deaf. And i just love him. He's sweet and complex in his own ways. Blitzen is a true friend and Sam is a wonderful complex. Everyone in this book i honestly just love. Alone the characters are a reason to read this book. The story was awesome. Well written, and tought out. A brilliant kick off for the Series. This boook is funny, thrilling and i can only recomend it to you if you are interessted in the Norse Mythology. :)

Ich bin ein grosser Fan von Rick Riordans Bücher, besonders der Percy Jackson und Helden des Olymp Reihen. "The Sword of Summer" ist nun der Start zu seiner neusten Reihe, die sich um die nordische Mythologie dreht. Das Buch spielt jedoch in derselben Welt, wie Riordans andere Reihen, welche die griechische, römische und ägyptische Mythologie behandeln, man trifft daher auch durchaus auf ein paar bekannte Charaktere. Wer die anderen Bücher kennt, kann aufgrund von Magnus Nachnamen natürlich schon erahnen, um wen es sich handelt... Die Geschichte wird aus der Sicht von Magnus erzählt, einem Sechzehnjährigen, der seit dem Tod seiner Mutter auf der Strasse lebt. Magnus war mir direkt vom Anfang der Geschichte an sympathisch. In vieler Hinsicht erinnert er an Percy, besonders da auch er trotz allem was geschieht immer seinen Sinn für Humor beibehält. Der angenehme und humorvolle Schreibstil ist auch etwas, was ich an Rick Riordans Büchern total mag. Auch wenn dieses Buch vom Humor her nicht ganz mit der Percy Jackson Reihe mithalten kann, gab es doch einige richtig lustige Szenen. Neben Magnus gibt es natürlich auch noch weitere wichtige Charaktere, die ihn auf seinem Abenteuer begleiten. Diese haben mir jedoch anfangs ziemliches Kopfzerbrechen bereitet, denn zwei davon Hearthstone und Blitzen, ein Elf und ein Zwerg, konnte ich anfangs beim besten Willen nicht auseinanderhalten. Auch wenn mir es im Verlauf der Geschichte dann irgendwann doch gelang konnte ich zu den beiden irgendwie nie richtig einen Zugang finden. Ganz anders verhielt es sich hingegen bei Sam. Sie ist ein super interessanter Charakter und hat sich schnell zu meiner Lieblingsfigur in diesem Buch entwickelt. Insbesondere die Darstellung der verschiedenen Götter und anderen mythologischen Wesen, fand ich wieder sehr gelungen. Die Begegnung mit Thor ist eine meiner Lieblingsstellen der Geschichte. Auch die verschiedenen Welten und besonders Hotel Valhalla, der Ort, an den gefallene Helden hingeschickt werden, waren super interessant. Rick Riordan gelingt es toll die mythologischen Elemente auf spannende und unterhaltsame Weise in die Geschichte einzufügen. Auch die Handlung hat mir grösstenteils gut gefallen. Jedoch wies die Geschichte auch ein paar Längen auf, wo ich das Gefühl hatte gewisse Dinge hätten etwas gekürzt werden können. Grössenteils war das Buch jedoch spannend und actionreich und hatte auch ein paar interessante Wendung, weshalb ich sehr gespannt bin, wie es im nächsten Teil weitergeht.

Myths are simply stories about truths we’ve forgotten. Actual rating: 3.5 stars I read Percy Jackson YEARS ago and I know that I loved it. I couldn’t get into the Kane Chronicles though but I waited until every book of the Magnus Chase series was published to be able to read them all. And boy, I had so much fun reading this, I can’t remember a single book that made me laugh as much as this one! The humour, sarcasm and wit in this book really made it special. The beginning had me laughing but after some time I was like “Oh, so this is happening as well?” The randomness of some things was too much for after I read about half of the book. The chapter titles are hilarious. Usually, I never read them but how could I skip over titles like “Hey, I know You’re Dead, But Call Me Maybe”, “We Have a Pre-Decapitation Party, with Spring Rolls”, “How to Kill Giants Politely” or “I Hate Signing my Own Death Warrant”? I liked Magnus as well as Blitzen and Hearthsone. I can’t say that I care about the other characters (yet) though. What pleasantly surprised me was the fact that there’s no romance. AT ALL. As soon as Sam was introduced, I was convinced that they’re going to be a couple by the end of this book. I really hope that I get to see more of the Nine Worlds in the next books. I also really want to see Blitzen's shop.
