'Reading a Renée Watson novel is like having an intimate conversation with a friend' Brandy Colbert
'deftly crafted, big-hearted, beautiful, funny, honest, and inspiring' Nicola Yoon
When Nala Robertson reluctantly agrees to attend an open mic night for her cousin-sister-friend Imani's birthday, she finds herself falling in instant love with Tye Brown, the MC. He's perfect, except . . .
Tye is an activist and is spending the summer putting on events for the community when Nala would rather watch movies and try out the new seasonal flavors at the local creamery. In order to impress Tye, Nala tells a few tiny lies to have enough in common with him. As they spend more time together, sharing more of themselves, some of those lies get harder to keep up. As Nala falls deeper into keeping up her lies and into love, she'll learn all the ways love is hard, and how self-love is revolutionary.
In Love Is a Revolution, plus size girls are beautiful and get the attention of the hot guys, the popular girl clique is not shallow but has strong convictions and substance, and the ultimate love story is not only about romance but about how to show radical love to the people in your life, including to yourself.

I've just spent 3 days living in the life of Nala's beautiful family and getting to know her life and community. I really liked it.
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗹𝗼𝘁 📝 Love is a Revolution is all about discovering who you are at your core and learning to love yourself first before you can fully love anyone else. Nala has a crush on Tye, however he's a bit of a polar opposite to her. He's an activist, she's not so much. He's pescetarien, she loves meat. In order to get him to like, she makes up a couple of lies that get harder and harder to keep up. I feel like this plot had a great message and you grew with Nala. Sometimes we love the people around us a lot and forget to love ourselves back. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 👥 The characters were amazing. They were all full of energy and love and passion. Even though there was a lot of tension, in the end everyone loved one another. I felt so welcome in their web because it felt like being part of one big and loving family. 𝗪𝗵𝘆 4.5 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘀? ⭐ I can recommend this book to everyone. It's a great and really fast read with a deep message and lots of memorable quotes. The only reason why it's not 5 Stars is because I didn't feel as emotionally invested as compared to other books.
