Reeling from the cancellation of her hit TV show, June Wood has nothing left to lose when a mysterious email lures her back to the New York City brownstone she once called home before she moved to Los Angeles. Thanks to a clause in the former owner’s will, she and her old roommate, Adam Harper, now own the multimillion-dollar property—or at least they will in a month, once all the paperwork is signed.
Four weeks, then June can return to her life in LA and forget about New York City and everything she left behind. Sure, the fact that June and Adam are estranged and haven’t even spoken in five years, and that their friendship didn’t exactly end on good terms might complicate matters, but this is an opportunity of a lifetime.
As the autumn leaves fall around them, through shared meals and late-night conversations, old wounds and long-buried sparks resurface, and it becomes strikingly clear: June and Adam have unfinished business. Confronted with the consequences of their choices years before, they must now navigate the minefield of their past the best way they know how: together. Second chances are always a risk, but maybe, if they get it right and are finally honest with each other and with themselves, it could be different this time.

Nach ihrem Umzug nach Los Angeles vor fünf Jahren hält June sich mit ihrer Arbeit als Schauspielerin über Wasser. Als sie erfährt, dass ihre aktuelle TV-Show abgesetzt wird, befindet sie sich an einem neuen Tiefpunkt. Und genau dann erreicht sie eine Nachricht, die sie nie erwartet hätte: Sie hat ein Brownstone in New York City geerbt. Naja, nicht ganz allein, sondern gemeinsam mit Adam, mit dem sie bis zu ihrem Umzug nach Los Angeles in genau diesem Haus zusammengelebt hat. June muss bis zur Vertragsunterzeichnung in einem Monat in New York bleiben und da sie keine andere Möglichkeit hat, zieht sie vorübergehend in das Haus ein. Genau so wie Adam. Die beiden haben seit fünf Jahren kein Wort mehr miteinander gesprochen und sind damals nicht im Guten auseinander gegangen … aber was soll schon schief gehen? 🫣 Das war wieder ganz, ganz toll. Ich habe die Charaktere alle so sehr gemocht und der Schreibstil war so schön, dass ich mich bei so vielen Szenen gefühlt habe, als wäre ich mit dabei. Obwohl ich eine einwöchige Lesepause hatte (ja, dramatisch, ich weiß), war ich emotional sofort wieder in der Geschichte drin. Wir begleiten June und Adam in der Gegenwart (beide in ihren 30ern - love that) und bekommen immer wieder Einblicke in ihre Vergangenheit: wie sie sich kennengelernt haben, alleine und miteinander gewachsen sind und welche Momente sie geprägt haben. Die Beziehung der beiden war wirklich so schön und auch die Nebencharaktere wie Chloe und Adams Familie sind mir richtig ans Herz gewachsen.❣️ Ich hatte beim Lesen wieder einmal die beste Zeit und hab von lachen bis weinen alles mitgenommen. Ein kleiner Punkt, der mich kurz geärgert hat, war der third-act breakup – whyyy? Bin einfach kein Fan davon. Da das aber mein einziger, klitzekleiner Punktabzug wäre und ich aktuell mit Sternen um mich schmeiße wie Oprah Winfrey mit Autos, gibt es hier natürlich auch 5 Sterne von mir. ✨ Was June mal besser hätte auf Dauerschleife hören sollen? Ruin the Friendship von Taylor Swift. 🍄

First saw this book on insta and really needed to get it after reading the blurb - and was not disappointed! One could think that this is an autumn book, or giving major NY vibes, but both were just really subtle; It was really mostly about the story of June and Adam and that was totally enough ✨It was slow burn which made it super realistic and Adam was mostly an absolute green flag, which I loved 🫶🏼 June was a little annoying in 2,3 situations, but I got where she’s coming from (childhood traumas) so it was still kind of understandable. All in all I simply enjoyed following those two growing up and finding their way 🏠 Extra: I really liked that we got little insides in both their work fields (chef/restaurant owner ; musical actress) 😍
