Beschreibung

From getting locked out of her flat twice on the same day and being fired for baking a giant cookie in the shape of her boss's head, to playing bridesmaid for a friend she'd long forgotten, Sloane Crosley can do no right, despite the best of intentions. With sharp, original and irresistible storytelling that confounds expectations at every turn, Crosley recounts her victories and catastrophes, finding uproarious comedy and genuine insights in the most unpredictable places.

I have to admit I bought this book because of the title. Who doesn't love cake? It's a pretty cover, too. And the night before I first heard about the book, I actually had a dream about cakes and cupcakes. So, I thought I was supposed to buy the book. It's not about cake. Unfortunately. Some of the installments are more fun than others, just like life, I guess. "I Was Told There'd Be Cake" was perfect for commuting: not to big to not fit in your handbag, good chapter lengths, nothing too naughty (unless you're into that kind of thing while on a train at 7:30am sandwiched between strangers invading your personal space), yet still cheeky and witty. [And everybody thinks you're reading a book about cake. So they start thinking about cake and cake makes people happy so people might have been happy seeing me read a book about cake which isn't actually about cake.]
