The compounding of pharmaceutical formulations remains a core skill in pharmacy and is taught extensively at undergraduate level. The extemporaneous dispensing of formulations to meet specific patient needs is widespread within both community and hospital practice in the UK and elsewhere. In the UK, many hospital pharmacy departments and community pharmacies have developed their own formulations although in many cases there is little rationale behind the formula, preparation method or product expiry date. This new publication is the first book to systematically assess the extent of nonsterile extemporaneous manufacturing within the UK and to critically risk assess the procedures undertaken. A key feature of this reference book is the A-Z list of 50 non-sterile extemporaneous formulation monographs. Each monograph has a consistent structure with essential information such as: formula, preparation method, risk assessment, stability, storage, references, etc.
