This volume covers the history of the 20th century with its extremes: War and Peace, Democracy and Dictatorship, rule over nature and natural catastrophes, plough and microchip, displacement and migration as well as wealth and hunger. Following this distinction the work spans the entire century from a global perspective, beginning with its great seminal catastrophe the First World War up to the terrorist assaults of 9/11.
