Über das Buch

From the internationally bestselling author of Welcome to the Hyunam-dong Bookshop comes a warm and reflective collection of essays about reading, language and life.

Why do we read? What is it that we hope to take away from the intimate, personal experience of reading for pleasure?

Rarely do we ask these profound, expansive questions of ourselves and of our relationship to the joy of reading. But in this gentle, philosophical collection celebrating books, reading and language, Hwang Bo-reum doesn't just tell us, but shows us what living a life immersed in reading means.

Every Day I Read provides many quiet moments for introspection and reflection, encourages book-lovers to explore what reading means to each of us. While this is a book about books, at its heart is an attitude to life, one outside capitalism and climbing the corporate ladder. Readers and non-readers will take away something from it, including a treasure trove of book recommendations blended seamlessly within.

Are you a reader? Read this. Do you struggle to read? Read THIS. Aren't you a reader at all? READ THIS. Are you looking for your next read? HERE IT IS! It's been an absolute journey, even though it's been way too short for such incomparable beauty! It's been lovely and charming, honest and raw, passioned and precious, emotional and understanding in an indescribable way, it's been unforgettable! Short chapters, charasmatic honest writing style. This book is for all of us! It's for laughing and crying and embracing life. Actually, connecting all genres. There are so many lessons on these pages, all of them conveyed through the art of the love of reading ❤️

I honestly blind-bought this book and thought it would be a novel like her bestseller. After it arrived, I found out that it’s actually an essay collection — but at least it’s about books (I know, I could have read the description, but as I said, I bought it blindly). One of the first things I really enjoyed was the translation; the job was done wonderfully. I also loved how short the chapters were. It wasn’t like those pseudo-psychology books (e.g., James Clear’s Atomic Habits) where every point is mentioned at least five times and the author never seems to come to an end, so the chapters just go on and on. Here, everything was short, informative, and emotional — and I appreciated that a lot. I liked her arguments, her recommendations, and the points she made. Overall, it’s a really good essay collection that might be helpful if you’re lacking motivation to read or are stuck in a reading slump.
