Eine zauberhafte Evelina
Die in der Obhut eines Pfarrers aufgewachsene Evelina hat sich zu einer bezaubernden, bildhübschen jungen Dame gemausert. Sie ist klug, gebildet und äußerst schüchtern und zurückhaltend. Von ihr geht ein besonderer Liebreiz aus und ich habe die Hauptprotagonistin in mein Herz geschlossen. Auch der Schreibstil des Buches gefiel mir, der durchaus das Gefühl vermittelte, wir befänden uns im 18. Jahrhundert. Die Idee, dass das Buch in Briefform geschrieben ist und wir den Briefwechseln zwischen Evelina und ihrem Ziehvater, bzw zwischen Evelina und ihren Freunden verfolgen dürfen, finde ich gelungen. Dennoch kann ich das Buch nicht positiver bewerten, denn die Geschehnisse, die die weltfremde und naive Evelina erlebt, während sie aus ihrem ländlichen, zurückgezogenen Leben in den von ihr bereisten Städten erlebt, sind teilweise dermaßen überzogen, dass sie absolut unglaubwürdig erscheinen. Und nicht nur, dass Ereignisse übertrieben dargestellt werden, sind sie zu langatmig beschrieben. Es war streckenweise eine Quälerei, mich durch die 553 Seiten durch zu lesen.
