Camp Half-Blood FYI is the funny insider's guide to the demigod training camp in Long Island, narrated by none other than Percy Jackson himself, and other favourite characters will be heard from, too.
In response to an awful camp orientation video created by the god Apollo, Percy Jackson and other residents of Camp Half-Blood answer such questions as "What is this place?" and "Do I get to keep the T-shirt?"
Newbies can check out the section on the Divine Cabins, read up on Magical Landmarks, and consult the chapter of Training Arenas.
But Camp Half-Blood Confidential explores much more than just the buildings and grounds. It includes info that can only be learned from those who live there. For instance, campers do not always co-exist in peace and harmony. The camp is not run with superior efficiency. Prophecies do not flow forth with great regularity.
Sprinkled throughout are stories from heroes who have called Camp Half-Blood home or just passed through on their way to places unknown. Chiron himself introduces the book with a brief history of training based on his millennia of experience.
And, of course, divine words of wisdom from the god Apollo himself are included, because the demigod authors would prefer not to be struck down by him, thank you very much.

“Camp Half-Blood Confidential” von Rick Riordan ist ein Begleitband zu seiner „Die Abenteuer des Apollo“-Reihe. Dieser ist zwischen dem zweiten Band („Die dunkle Prophezeiung“) und dem dritten Band („Das brennende Labyrinth“) angesiedelt. Tatsächlich knüpft dieses Buch aber eigentlich an den dritten Band der „Percy Jackson“-Reihe („Der Fluch des Titanen“) an. In diesem Band wird Nico Di Angelo als Charakter eingeführt und Grover holt ihn ab, um ihm das Einführungsvideo zu zeigen. Genau um dieses Video geht es nun. Scheinbar ist Nico derzeit der einzige anwesende Camper, der dieses Video tatsächlich gesehen hat, was Percy & Co. nun wirklich nicht auf sich sitzen lassen wollen. Alle sind sich daraufhin einig, dass diese antiquierte Monstrosität, die von keinem Geringeren als Apollo geschrieben, produziert und gefilmt wurde, ersetzt werden muss. „Camp Half-Blood Confidential“ zeigt uns somit die Highlights des Films im Drehbuchformat und die abwechslungsreichen Inhalte der zukünftigen Camp-Halfblood-Broschüre. Darunter finden sich Interviews, Mini-Novellen, die eher Anekdoten sind, Werbe-Promotionen der Geysir-Zwillinge uvm. Viele Seiten sind illustriert. Wie jedes Begleitbuch fällt es in die Kategorie: Kann man lesen, muss man aber nicht. Wer die Welt, die Riordan hier erschaffen hat, ebenso sehr liebt wie ich, sollte sich das aber nicht entgehen lassen. Es ist ein charmantes, kleines Büchlein, das ein besonderes Augenmerk auf die neueren Camper wirft, die bislang kaum nennenswerte Nebenrollen spielten. Nichtsdestotrotz haben Nico, Percy und Annabeth natürlich auch so einiges zu sagen. Leider gibt es dieses Mal keine Rätsel-Einheit, aber das werde ich wohl verkraften. 5/5 Sterne!
I liked that we got the opportunity to learn more about the camp and other campers. Of course it's not as good as the main books but it's nice to read in between. I had some problems with the part about the cabins. Annabeths story felt weird and kind of AU. I would have loved an inside in every cabin and the interior that defines them instead. It was also strange that in the part "about the campers" so many mortal parents are unknown. I personally think it would feel more in canon if they got random names even if we don't meet them again. In conclusion, the book is a nice companion book but I wouldn't say it's a must have.
