The book broke my heart 💭

Wow. This book made me speechless. I don't know how to handle my feelings - they're literally all over the place. Just OH MY GOD. I received an eARC from Netgalley and I'm glad I got to read it! It's told from 4 different point of views - Tomás, Autumn, Claire and Sylv. Each one has a different perspective on the things happening in the auditorium when things are getting serious ... and deadly. It's not pretty. It's shocking and emotional and feels so, so real. Like that could happen anywhere in real life as well. It certainly already did ... and that doesn't make it any better. To read how everything started was already terrible ... I can only imagine what goes through your head when someone walks into a room with a gun in his hand and there's no way out. Fear? Hopelessness? Determination to stop him, whatever the cost? I wouldn't know and hope I won't ever experience this. And if you think about it ... ALL of that happened in "only" 54 minutes. SO MUCH. It's just horrible. I constantly felt with the main characters and everyone else ... the fear is definitely real. The emotions towards the end ... it was SO much. I definitely had teary eyes but most of the time I didn't even know what to feel. Should I be relieved that this time his bullet didn't hit someone? Should I be scared for what would happen next? Who he's gonna shot? Should I be hopeful that the police would show up any time now? That they'd get everyone out? I DIDN'T KNOW! I felt everything and nothing at the same time. It's a book I'd immediately recommend! The writing style is great, easy to read and flows perfectly. For me, there was no boring moment, I was constantly on edge and biting my nails because I wasn't sure what would come next. If you're up for something like that - go into it without knowing too much! Just read it, it's totally worth it and important in times like this. www.aworldbetweenfoldedpages.blogspot.com __________________________ August 2nd: I'm not sure how to put my feels and thoughts into words ... it's a "good" book but also really horrible, shocking and so, so true. Definitely worth a read tough!

this book is about a pretty heavy topic. school shootings. it was super emotional and really shone a light on what victims would feel as the events unfold. it’s told in multiple povs which i really enjoyed and it never got confusing. the twists and turns had my stomach in knots the entire time. if you’re able to handle a book on this topic, i highly recommend this one.

Ich finde das Thema Amoklauf sehr gut dargestellt und mir gefällt, dass es in verschiedenen Perspektiven geschrieben ist.

It's been well over a month now, since I've read "This Is Where It Ends" and it still hurts. It shouldn't have to hurt like this. A story about a boy with a gun holding his school hostage, shooting his teachers, his classmates… shouldn't be scary. Shouldn't feel real. But it does. Because it is. "So we run. Not just in circles around the track. We run toward all that is waiting for us. We run together, while we still can." And maybe you are one of those people who doesn't think it is. Who doesn't want to see the point in a book like this. Or maybe you are a parent who won't let their kids read this book, because they will get scared, or because they will get scary ideas. But people don't start shooting people because they read books, play video games or watch violent movies. They can see all the violence they want in the news and in the real word. But if you only see it on TV, happening somewhere far far away, it's not scary. Not for them anyway. It's something that just happens somewhere in the world, lots of stuff happens somewhere far away, doesn't have anything to do with you, bullying that kid in your science class. Well guess what, it does have everything to do with that. And it's closer to home than you think. But I don't want to scare you, or anything like that. I just want to ease you into this book. I think we've all been there, sitting hearing about gun violence in the news and thought "What if this happened at my school? What if it happened at my little brothers school? What if it happened where I work?" Marieke Nijkamp has the answer for you. "This Is Where It Ends" tells the story of those what ifs, from plenty of perspectives. About the little brother, the older sister, the kids in school, and the ones at home worrying about their teacher parents. "The shooter. Two words that taste sour and foreign. My brother." Social media, blogs, newspapers. Nosy journalists trying to do interviews on Twitter. The twitter hashtags and "trends", tweets by kids in school and at home, and those just supporting, worrying. "Run if you can. Hide if you have to. Don't be a target. […] get yourself to safety." All of that makes the book feel alive. Real. Like it is just happening somewhere, but this time it's not that far away. And all you are left with is the feeling that this should never ever have to happen to anyone ever again. It's face paced, and it will suck you into your seat. It will also be over before you know it, leaving you with the biggest book hangover you will ever experience. "Running away and saving your own skin is only noble when you don't leave anyone behind. If I were in the auditorium, I'd want someone to come for me. I'd want there to be hope." "This Is Where It Ends" is incredibly clever, incredibly well done. And it hurts, because it matters.

I picked up this book and didn't want to put it down. At first I found the writing style a bit hard to follow but I was quickly able to distinguish the characters voices. The characters all have more to them then what meets the eye. As the story unfolds you learn more about them. The story lasts roughly an hour but all of these characters are changed forever.
