From the author of The Darkest Corners and Little Monsters comes an all-new edge-of-your-seat thriller set in upstate New York about an eerie sequence of seemingly unrelated events that leaves five cheerleaders dead.

There are no more cheerleaders in the town of Sunnybrook.

First there was the car accident--two girls dead after hitting a tree on a rainy night. Not long after, the murders happened. Those two girls were killed by the man next door. The police shot him, so no one will ever know his reasons. Monica's sister was the last cheerleader to die. After her suicide, Sunnybrook High disbanded the cheer squad. No one wanted to be reminded of the girls they'd lost.

That was five years ago. Now the faculty and students at Sunnybrook High want to remember the lost cheerleaders. But for Monica, it's not that easy. She just wants to forget.

Only, Monica's world is starting to unravel. There are the letters in her stepdad's desk, an unearthed, years-old cell phone, a strange new friend at school. . . . Whatever happened five years ago isn't over. Some people in town know more than they're saying. And somehow, Monica is at the center of it all.

There are no more cheerleaders in Sunnybrook, but that doesn't mean anyone else is safe.

3,5 stars Listened to the audiobook! As far as YA-mysteries go, this one was quite enjoyable. Since I listened to the audiobook though, it seemed like the names of the characters sounded extremely similar, which made it difficult to distinguish between them, which made it hard for me to get invested in the story. Overall, the mystery aspect was nicely done, and also the detective aspect (like finding out who did it) was decent.

TROPES: – murder mystery – teen detective duo – extrovert / introvert

FAVOURITE QUOTE: “Everyone goes through shit, and there's always someone somewhere who has it worse. It doesn't make what you're feeling any less real or any less shitty.“ I am surprised how much I enjoyed diving into this story. I‘ve been invested from the start, curious what happened with the cheerleaders. Monica’s investigation is everything but professional but the way she is emotionally involved in all of it has drawn me all–in, and how everyone around her suddenly seems to become dangerous and untrustworthy, that’s a sign this is very well written. Reading this book is so exciting – whenever I had the time to read, I couldn’t put it down. Something I think is very important when it comes to murder mysteries is that the conclusion is worth it all. And in this book it is in my opinion. I also need to mention the epilogue – because that has been a WOW on top, actually even better than the conclusion. I haven‘t seen this coming, and haven’t been aware I needed it, and I‘m so glad for this cherry on top. I thought there would be a love story between Monica and Ginny which is – sadly – not reeeeally the case. I still think there is a connection and there are sparks though. So in my mind they get a HEA together. Don‘t fight me on this😘 4.5/5⭐️
