Beschreibung

In her forest-veiled pagan village, Évike is the only woman without power, making her an outcast clearly abandoned by the gods. The villagers blame her corrupted bloodline—her father was a Yehuli man, one of the much-loathed servants of the fanatical king. When soldiers arrive from the Holy Order of Woodsmen to claim a pagan girl for the king’s blood sacrifice, Évike is betrayed by her fellow villagers and surrendered.

But when monsters attack the Woodsmen and their captive en route, slaughtering everyone but Évike and the cold, one-eyed captain, they have no choice but to rely on each other. Except he’s no ordinary Woodsman—he’s the disgraced prince, Gáspár Bárány, whose father needs pagan magic to consolidate his power. Gáspár fears that his cruelly zealous brother plans to seize the throne and instigate a violent reign that would damn the pagans and the Yehuli alike. As the son of a reviled foreign queen, Gáspár understands what it’s like to be an outcast, and he and Évike make a tenuous pact to stop his brother.

As their mission takes them from the bitter northern tundra to the smog-choked capital, their mutual loathing slowly turns to affection, bound by a shared history of alienation and oppression. However, trust can easily turn to betrayal, and as Évike reconnects with her estranged father and discovers her own hidden magic, she and Gáspár need to decide whose side they’re on, and what they’re willing to give up for a nation that never cared for them at all.

Nicht mein Ding

I've been quite disappointed with this book actually. The magical system and general story line are not not bad but I felt like nothing is really happening. The potential thrilling scenes were for some reason boring written which is why I couldn't really dive into this world. Especially boring was the time when Evike arrived at the city. She is finding her farther there and is sneaking out of the castle at night to be with him to teach her reading. That's it. A book with great potential but implementation sadly not succeeded. 3/5

4.5

AvA Reid's stories are really a different kind of fantastic. Slightly weird, totally compelling, leaves you with an otherworldly feeling. I don't know anyone who does this as well as her.

Schade!

4.5

I had no expectations when starting this book, but was pleasantly surprised! I loved the gothic atmosphere and will definitely read more books by Ava Reid. The moment they entered the capital the vibes changed a little, so it’s not a full 5⭐️ read for me.

Ok people please read the trigger warnings! This is a bloody one! I really enjoyed this book! Things were happening from page one! There were passages that I did not need, but they complete the story. It was not at all what I expected - it was definitely better! ⭐️ story line ⭐️ adventure ⭐️ light love story - enemies to lovers ⭐️ main character very relatable Here you have a short but honest review

“Will you tell me a story wolf-girl?” Some might say, that the heroine of this story didn’t make a lot of character development, but honestly, this book takes place over a couple of months. And the way everything turned out in the end is realistic when it comes to how she acts and feels. It’s honest. I love the different legends and myths that are told. I really like how she comes to realize that a lot are similar, changed to fit different believes but still had the same starting point back in the day. It’s a lot about perception, how far one will go to achieve what they believe is right and feeling lost between worlds. I really enjoyed this book and hope to read more of the authors works in the future.
