I absolutely adore this book! The characters are so well written and develop extremely naturally from unusually dislikable to genuinely lovable, it’s amazing. Even though the story seems to be more one for children and therefore often times feels childishly naive (very suitable for its main characters and I didn’t mind this at all), its value and lessons are not only still applicable today, but also wonderfully spread throughout the whole book. Also, since my native language isn’t English, I often have some trouble understanding English books with „accents“. I did not have much trouble understanding the extremely frequently used Yorkshire accent in this book though. Great writing!

This was beautiful, and even though it’s supposed to be a classic children’s book, I adored it. The Old English Yorkshire Accent was a little hard to read at times, but not so much that I couldn’t enjoy it. A very accessible and beautifully written classic.
