The Maze Runner (Maze Runner, Book One): Book One

Ich wusste nicht wirklich was mich mit diesem Buch erwarten würde , und vor allem in welche Richtung es gehen würde . Aber mir hat es richtig gut gefallen , wobei ich noch nicht weiß was ich vom Ende halten soll , da ich so eine Richtung nicht erwartet habe . Ich fand das ganze Buch aber sehr spannend , und wollte unbedingt wissen wie es weitergeht ! Ich fand es sehr gut !

Super spannend

Ein komisches Labyrinth. Ein neuer. Und eine neue. Sie kennen sich irgendwoher. Woher? Das weiß niemand. Wo sind sie? Warum wurde ein Mädchen zu ihnen geschickt? Und wie können sie dem Labyrinth entkommen? Um auf diese Fragen eine Antwort zu finden müssen die Läufer versuchen einen Ausweg aus dem Labyrinth zu finden ohne dabei von Griewern gestochen zu werden. Die Läufer erkunden das Labyrinth, doch werden sie einen Ausweg finden?

Als Hörbuch gehört. Genial!

at first i was confused and completely lost - i didn't know what it is about, what happened, where they are or WHO they really are but now? i'm in love with it! it got better with each chapter and the end was surprising and unexpected for me! i'm glad i read it and i can't wait to read the next book!

I was hesitant at first. I read on this website and on others, that the book is not really worth reading. Then I saw it on sale and thought "what the heck, let's just buy it!". I started reading... and loved it! I enjoyed every minute of it. The story is captivating, there is never a dull moment, it's easy to read and to follow. I ordered the sequel as soon as I finished the book. Definitely recommend it.

Buddy read with Mari I’ve had this book for years, but never picked it up, so when it was included in my audible subscription, I took the chance and had Mari read it with me. Thank you, dear. I have watched the movies, one or two even in theaters. I did kinda like them, but to be honest, they didn’t really compare to Divergent and the Hunger Games. And I don’t know if this is the reason, but the Maze Runner books are also written by a man (compared to the other two) and to be honest … he didn’t do the greatest job. The slang he came up with for the boys was just … bad, confusing and kinda annoying. The only plot driving force was the main character, but never on the accord of outside sources. He was simply super smart and remembered things and knew what to do, even tho others had been trying for over 2 years. Sure he does give it his all, but apparently not because it is the right thing to do, but rather because he simply “wants to know the answers”. Honestly, I would have probably dnf’d the book, if I didn’t know the movies and knew that after this first part, the world opens up more and it won’t be so limited. There is one part that is technically super sad, but the author failed to grab my emotions with it, which makes it sad in a whole other way.

Fuck books that make me wanna read the sequel

I don't normally read a lot of Sci Fi books as Sci Fi is a genre I usually watch rather than read, but I liked this one :)

I like James Dashner's ideas and the way they work together. The Maze, the rules of the Glade, the new slang, the designs of the main monsters (the Grievers) feel like new and fresh ideas and therefore make "Maze Runner" very enjoyable. However, his style of writing isn't my favorite thing in the world. Everything is very straightforward and there's very little introspection in the main character Thomas which kind of makes him hard to sympathize with. It could be that that's the case due to Thomas obviously not remembering who he was but he could still have a few more emotions in my opinion. I prefer books that really talk about emotions and thoughts rather than purely looks and action, but that's a personal thing. Dashner's style of writing is easy and quick to read though, so you can devour this book very fast. I'll definitely continue reading the series.

Die Geschichte fängt damit an, dass wir gemeinsam mit Thomas auf die Lichtung kommen – der zentrale Ort im Labyrinth, an dem man geschützt ist und an dem die Lichter (so nennen sich die Bewohner der Lichtung) leben. Da es keinen allwissenden Erzähler gibt, wissen wir immer nur genauso viel, wie Thomas. Am Anfang heißt das: nichts. Viele seiner Fragen werden einfach nicht beantwortet und die anderen Jungen geben sich sehr geheimnisvoll. Ich fand die Jugendlichen, die schon eine Weile an diesem Ort leben, sehr authentisch. Sie haben ein paar neue Wörter entwickelt, an die ich mich erst gewöhnen musste, nachher aber jedes Mal geschmunzelt habe. Außerdem sind alle ziemlich hart. Gerade an Thomas ersten Tag muss er einiges einstecken. Auch die Angst, die ein ständiger Begleiter der Labyrinthbewohner ist, hat der Autor gut rübergebracht. An sich fand ich Thomas ganz sympathisch, auch wenn er mich manchmal ein bisschen genervt hat. Doch es ist mir irgendwie nicht gelungen, eine Bindung zu ihm aufzubauen. Irgendwie war ich immer ein bisschen distanziert. Als ich mich ein bisschen in die Welt des Labyrinths eingefunden hatte, konnte mich die Handlung jedoch mitreißen und es passierten ständig neue, unvorhergesehene Dinge, die mich gebannt weiterlesen ließen. Gerade zum Ende hin kommen einige Sachen ans Licht, die mich die letzten 100 Seiten geradezu verschlingen ließen. Das Ende bietet eine unglaubliche Grundlage für den zweiten Band. Ich bin total gespannt, wie es weiter geht. Fazit: Auch wenn ich keine rechte Nähe zum Protagonisten aufbauen konnte, hat mich die Geschichte überzeugt. Ich habe mit den Läufern nach einem Ausweg aus dem Labyrinth gesucht und mit Thomas gerätselt, aus welchem Grund die Jungen überhaupt dort festsitzen. Ich freue mich schon darauf, Teil 2 zu lesen!
