Mathematica has become the leading computer algebra software system in the world, with well over 250K useers, and still climbing. ther are currently some 50 different book publications relating to Mathematica which have been published in many languages, and the program itself has been translated into Japanese and German. Michael Trott is a well -known Mathematica-users and enthusiast throughout Germany and Europe, and most recently has joined WRI to wook on Mathematica projects for the future. The 3.0 Mathematica version, in particular. He and a collegue established the first Mathematica user group in Germany, wher he is a professor, for the past three years to a very diverse group of students and faculty members. this how the material for this detailed treatment of Mathematica were developed, in an open classroom environment. Trott used applications suggested to him by his audience to teach Mathematica, and he made extensive use of the vusual strenths of Mathemaica's spectacular graphics contecnt in Mathematica unique to this presentation. Stephen Wolfram, the major developer of Mathematica, states that he has never seen examples of Mathematica as deep and carfully writting and developed as these in Trott's materials. This book is being translated by Larry Schumaker, Dept. of Mathematics, Vanderbilt U., who has prior experience translating material for Springer-Verlag, and who is himself, a Mathematica user. Paul Wellin, Editor of the "Mathematica in Education and Research" newsletter, and formaerly of the Math Deptot Cal. State U., Sonoma, as well as being a TELOS author, is the Consulting editor for the project. These individuals are working closely with the author, who is now in residence in Champaign, as well as with the Publications Group at WRI, to produce this very important work for TELOS and publication.
