Mega gute Erzählungen! Enriquez hat mich wieder überzeugt!
Very weird in the best way possible
Creepy, intriguing and fun to read. The stories are horrifying but you can’t stop reading.
12 tales of modern horror - more weird than spooky, but always exciting. Enriquez combines contemporary gothic with modern day life in Argentina, looking back at the history of the country.
An interesting experience; it definitely has a unique taste.
⭐⭐⭐. 5 An interesting experience of a book. My first read of the author Mariana Enriquez, another book of her is waiting on my bookshelf for me, and I must say that I am between sides. The first short stories weren't as interesing; some were very 'basic' I would say, not as unique. But when I came to 'Where are you, Dear Heart?' and the stories after that, I was hooked a little more. I found them more unique and the stories catched my attention. It is almost 4 Stars because I only really got hooked after the first half of the stories. It still was a good book!
ich werd heut nacht nicht schlafen können. help.
I used to say that I don't like Horror stories it's just not my jam. This is one of my all time favorite books none the less. A hidden gem that I can't recommend enough. ❤️ Tbh I bought it for it's cover but did not get disappointed 😃
i don’t recommend eating while reading this one
So good!!! Read it super fast bc my loan at the library was lapsing, it was so much better than i could ever expect! You might wanna have a look at the content warnings but otherwise, i don’t want to spoil much. VERY interestingly written stories about the paranormal, spirits and human connection to that. I definitely recommend picking this one up. Maybe I’ll read it in Spanish one day..
Overall, this short story collection was a great experience. It was intense, dirty, sometimes cruel, honest and raw, always from a female perspective, and that's exactly what I like. It was also, at times, eerily relatable. The writing (in translation) is beautiful.Angelita Unearthed ****Nice and creepy, has a lot of elements I generally like in horror/creepy stories. I would have wished for a little more, but I like the open ending. A good start. Our Lady of the Quarry ***Didn't like this one as much. It started super strong and I was curious to see how it would end, but I expected a more ... clever resolution. The Cart ***This one was good, but a little predictable. The Well *****Although it was pretty clear from the beginning what had happend, this story still hit me right in the feels. The writing is beautiful and the length is perfect. Rambla Triste *****Very dark and interesting premise, with a lot of ideas only hinted at. Really liked it. 4.5/5The Lookout *****This one hit me. Specially the desciption of the protagonist's feelings. Her feelings when <spoiler>cutting herself triggered me, they were so relatable, and yet the author needed so few words to convey them.</spoiler> Where Are You, Dear Heart? ****Very explicit and very creepy. 4.5/5Meat *****Loved that one! A lot of elements that I like.No Birthdays or BaptismsLots of open questions. Very well done, but I think I won't be rating it due to its content.Kids Who Come Back ***Again, the writing is great, and I really like the kind of detached perspective we get from the protagonist. But the plot was not something new and I felt it was too long. The Dangers of Smoking in Bed *****Loved it. So many layers.Back When We Talked to the Dead ****Nearly 3 stars, but then there was this nice little twist near the end when we learn <spoiler>that he is actually not dead</spoiler>, that made it for me.
