Beschreibung

Dragons of all kinds are a lot of fun, and this collection of wild stories is full of them. Some of the legendary monsters are amusing and mischievous, while others are downright terrifying, and a few are wild and unpredictable. There's an ice dragon, another who seeks refuge in the General Post Office, a scaly beast who kidnaps the largest elephant in a zoo, and even a dragon whose gentle purring soothes a tiny tot. And who dares to take on these incredible creatures? Daring heroes, of course, as well as a wicked prince and even an entire soccer team — which, sadly, meets its end at the hands of a fire-breathing brute who flies out of the pages of an enchanted book.

Autorenbeschreibung

Nesbit, the daughter of an agricultural chemist, was born in 1858 at 38 Lower Kennington Lane in Kennington, Surrey (now classified as Inner London). Due to Edith's sister Mary's illness, the family spent several years traveling, living in Brighton, Buckinghamshire, France (Dieppe, Rouen, Paris, Tours, Poitiers, Angoulême, Bordeaux, Arcachon, Pau, Bagnères-de-Bigorre, and Dinan in Brittany), Spain, and Germany. After Mary's death, Edith and her mother settled for three years at Halstead Hall in Halstead, north-west Kent, a setting that later inspired The Railway Children (though the Derbyshire town of New Mills has also claimed this distinction).
