Beschreibung

An electric romance set against a rebel art scene sparks lethal danger for two girls in She's Too Pretty to Burn, an expertly plotted YA thriller by Wendy Heard.

The summer is winding down in San Diego. Veronica is bored, caustically charismatic, and uninspired in her photography. Nico is insatiable, subversive, and obsessed with chaotic performance art. They’re artists first, best friends second. But that was before Mick. Delicate, lonely, magnetic Mick: the perfect subject, and Veronica’s dream girl. The days are long and hot―full of adventure―and soon they are falling in love. Falling so hard, they never imagine what comes next. One fire. Two murders. Three drowning bodies. One suspect . . . one stalker. This is a summer they won’t survive.

Inspired by The Picture of Dorian Gray, this sexy psychological thriller explores the intersections of love, art, danger, and power.

Definitiv empfehlenswert.

Tropes – sapphic love story – psychological thriller – The Picture of Dorian Grey retelling – secret society feels – environmental activism – artists

This book starts right on point, Mick and Veronica meeting for the first time. Though the story takes time to introduce to these two. Mick, the guarded, quiet girl who doesn‘t want to be photographed, and Veronica, the rather outgoing one with her camera practically being attached to her. They shouldn’t match as perfectly as they do, but they definitely do match. Nico is Veronica‘s best friend, the one calling her ‘wife‘ though they aren‘t interested in each other romantically. He rather takes interest in Mick. I actually didn‘t expect him to take as much space in this story as he did… and I don‘t know how I feel about that. I read this because it‘s sapphic (not because of the thriller elements, sorry guys), and everything about Mick and Veronica is pretty great, so throwing a guy into the mix is…maybe not exactly what I wanted. However, it‘s interesting how his story envolves, and I don‘t know why but his activism reminded me a little bit of the Ravenhood trilogy😂😂 The ending is rather brilliant or too abrupt, I‘m still contemplating that in my head. I like the built–up to this very much. Though I really want to read how it plays out, I can understand why the ending is open. (Btw, it‘s an open ending, I think this should be mentioned)

Ein absolutes Auf und Ab!

This book starts like a romantic love story and before you know it twists into something dark and sinister. It takes you a minute to comprehend what just happened and how it could all go so wrong. I knew this was some sort of Dorian Grey retelling but having not read that book that information meant nothing to me. The reason I picked this up was because I read thriller and sapphic and that’s all I really need in life.
