Of Prussian Heritage

Born 1933 in the free city of Danzig, now Polish Gdansk, Christa Unnasch fled in January 1945 with her mother and younger brother over the Baltic Sea barely escaping the Russian U-boat that sank the ‘Wilhelm Gustloff’. After many hardships the small family settled in the village of ‘St Annen’ near Heide in Holstein. Christa obtained her nursing sister certificate in Luebeck, Germany and worked last at the Maternity Ward in Hamburg-Altona from where she resigned in 1960 to migrate to Australia.
