Wunderschön geschrieben, liebenswerte Charaktere, super interessante Lebensformen

Cozy, amazing Sci-Fi

Wow, I really loved this. I didn't know anything going into this and was absolutely positively suprised. This was cozy and humourous and has awesome found family mixed with diverse characters and a lot of philosophical questions so what is not to love about it. This reminded me so much of the Murderbot Diaries in the best way possible and I loved every minute of it. Absolutely recommend picking this up!

My first book by Becky Chambers and I am blown away; I am in love! I'm glad I read a lot of reviews before I picked up the first of the Wayfares books because otherwise I might have been disappointed. I have no idea when I last read such a comfort book, where even conflicts are described so calmly that my heart almost explodes. Yes, this book is definitely carried by its characters. And oh god ... I so fell in love with them! I think my favourites were Ohan, Corbin and Sissix and about the first two, I would have loved to read more. But anyway, the whole crew crept into my heart and I also found the other characters (especially Pei and the Aeluon) so cool and exciting? In general, all the species were so intriguing! Also, the whole universe felt so well thought through ... as if there was really a lot of lore behind it and as if Becky had really put a lot of effort into it. I take my hat off, it's wonderful <3 And the writing style is just wonderful too; I can't say anything else about it. It gave the story everything it needed - love and sensitivity. So if you want to read comfort and can/want to get involved with a mixed crew (species), this is the book for you. Love, Comfort ... a lot of background/history and just enough drama that you might shed a tear and then laugh again.

After years and years of grimdark dystopian SciFi this utopian adventure was such a delightful read. Becky Chambers creates a wonderfully believable and at its core GOOD future. Of course there is pain. And of course there is conflict. But also so much to be fascinated by. This is one of the stories you wished you could walk into, not only to get to know the world better, but also to meet the characters (I loved all the characters and their interaction so much). But not only this: it also has the potential to show you what humanity really means -or sapiency, because nobody could still restrict this term to humans only after reading this book. I cried after finishing because I did not want to leave this world and I am so glad that there are sequels out there I can devour.

I can’t believe I put off reading this for so long. My heart is as broken as it is full. TLWTASAP has some flaws, mainly with pacing and in one case with character building. But Chambers’ characters are insanely lovable and the way philosophical musings about (not necessarily interspecies) relationships were woven into the story were plain masterful. Had a small amount of action and tension, but was mostly character-focused and cozy and that was totally fine by me. Instant favorite.

✦✦✦✦ i didn't know comfort-sci-fi exists until now. and i really enjoyed it! could've used a little more character-development for a character-driven plot, tho.

The book has kept me entertained and it was refreshingly different for a Sci-Fi novel. For this reason it has earned 4 stars. I read quite a lot of sci-fi and find lengthy descriptions about the technique of space travel tiring. This novel, on the other hand, focused fully on the acting persons and their relationships and stories. Space was only an incidental framework. The book could also have gone through a team of foreigners, genders, religions or ethnic groups. So it was not really a classic Sci-Fi novel. The theme was social interaction with being different. It is written with a lot of humor, but also with a certain seriousness. I liked that. The crew of the Wayfarer was very nice to me and I look forward to a continuation. Unfortunately the book lacked a continuous tension curve. The title suggests that it is about a conflict with an angry planet. The book is lost in the list of the stories of the individual crew members. Each chapter would thus be a short story. But the connecting thread is missing. Nevertheless I give a recommendation.
