In an empire on the brink of war . . .
Ahn is no one, with no past and no family.
Altan is a lost heir, his future stolen away as a child.

"Jade Fire Gold" hat mich positiv überrascht. Mir hat die Welt sehr angetan und auch die Charaktere sind mir ans Herz gewachsen. Die Geschichte war rasant und somit bin ich nur durch die Seiten geflogen. Ich hoffe sehr auf eine Fortsetzung, da das Ende einiges offen lässt.

[An eARC of this book was provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.] CN: self-harm (gouging, eye horror; non-graphic), child abuse (physical, verbal, emotional manipulation/gaslighting), parent death (implied, off-page), character deaths, mentions and descriptions of fantasy/magical violence (blood, war, political violence), mentions and descriptions of physical symptoms that might be triggering to those with emetophobia, alcohol consumption, grief, death of a parent, blood What I liked about this book: - fascinating magic system - amazing world-building (inspired by Chinese mythology) - beautiful slow-burn romance - sapphic and achillean side characters - dual POV with two really interesting main characters - fast paced plot with a lot of action - beautiful writing style - shocking plot twists I highly recommend this book to all fans of the Shadow and Bone trilogy and Avatar: The Last Airbender!

3,5 Stars There is a lot of potential in this plot. The elements, the world building, the politics at court - the author decided this book to be a single one but this has potential to be a big thing, especially because it reminds me of Avatar the last Airbender. In my opinion the writing style was pretty fast-paced so I sometimes felt like parts of the story were missing because the action had barely started when it was over again. Fights lasted one page, barely two and with one blink suddenly two weeks go past. I wished for longer descriptions in those scenes. The plot could have been much more detailed too, we could have driven much deeper into Shi, experienced another depth to the characters and this wonderful world. I find it sad that - although the book was very good in general - it rather seemed to scratch at the surface without ever going into too much detail. On the other hand, a lot happened on only 400 pages. Would I read it again? No. But I would surely recommend it to fantasy-lovers who seek a lighter book without wanting to dive into another long series. This book is perfect if you just finished a trilogy and just want to take a breath for a second before starting with a new series.

First of all… the tropes were amazing. “I have to kill you” and chosen one?? Amazing. I started this with high expectations and I was not disappointed. I loved this book so much, I couldn’t read it as fast as I wanted to because of school but I was happy every time I could read it. The book is absolutely addictive and the pacing is perfect. The protagonists were amazing. Ahn and Altan were both loveable characters with individual growth and strong personalities, loved the dual pov. I found their romance to be a little too rushed, even though it was slow burn, but it was still really cute. The side characters made the story even more amazing. You never knew who to trust – that made the characters and story even more interesting. The found family trope was also amazing here. I really enjoyed the fast paced plot and Chinese mythology – definitely something I want to read more of. All these elements kept me interested at all times, I was never bored. June C.L. Tan has a beautiful writing style, it was really easy to read (even for not native English speakers.) I really hope that we will get a second book because the book has a cliffhanger epilogue and I need to know what happens next. I will definitely read everything this author writes!! And I’d recommend you do the same, so pick up this book!
