Beschreibung

From the no. 1 international bestselling author of The Atlas Six.

Olivie Blake is a mind-blowing talent – Chloe Gong

Chicago, sometime. Two people meet in the armory of the Art Institute by chance. Prior to their encounter, he is a doctoral student who manages his destructive thoughts with compulsive calculations about time travel; she is a bipolar counterfeit artist undergoing court-ordered psychotherapy. After their meeting, those things do not change.

Everything else, however, is slightly different.

Both obsessive, eccentric personalities, Aldo Damiani and Charlotte Regan struggle to be without each other from the moment they meet. The truth - that he is a clinically depressed, anti-social theoretician and she is a manipulative liar with a history of self-sabotage - means the deeper they fall in love, the more troubling their reliance on each other becomes.

Alone With You in the Ether by Olivie Blake is a glimpse into the nature of love, what it means to be unwell, and how to face the fractures of yourself and still love as if you're not broken.

one of the most beautiful and unique books i’ve read so far. this is just pure art.

2.5

The acknowledgments have been the best part of the book. I had problems with how mental health was pictured here and didn’t feel connected to the characters in a way that I cared. The first part of the book was promising, but the second was very chaotic (which I understand is on purpose, but not my cup of tea).

I don't know what to think of this book. I didn't hate it but I also didn't like it. At the end I was just trying to finish it as quickly as possible just so it's over. The writing style was poetic and confusing at the same time. But the beauty of some quotes couldn't make up for the lack of interest that I had in the characters

I don't think I could ever find the right words for this book!❤️‍🩹

The story of Rinaldo and Charlotte really touched me. She’s bipolar and has to regularly attend court-ordered therapy sessions while he tries to calculate the concept of time and time travel. She is impulsive and lives every moment so incredibly intensely while he tries to keep his walls up with his routines. When the two meet, their six conversations with a complete stranger lead to one of the most touching love stories I've ever read.🥺 I was able to recognize myself so incredibly well in Charlotte Regan's thoughts and feelings and was therefore extremely rooted in the story with my emotions. The book is beautifully written and very, very touching. I constantly had the feeling that I could be with then inside their heads. It all felt very personal, which is why I kept taking longer breaks and read the book in small sections over a month. It was so worth it!🙏🏼

Please remember Reading is subjective.

This is a story about a woman and a man falling in love. This is a story about a woman with a bipolar mood disorder who learns to live without medication. This is a story about Regan and Aldo.

I just read a piece of art. First things first: Olivie Blakes writing style. I have never read anything that I could compare with this book. Now, I want to inhale all of her stories, want to laugh out loud because of these clever sentences. This one might be different from her other stories, it certainly is different to everything I've read before (not, because I usually do not read contemporary). Nevertheless, I'm sure I'll love her other books and just found myself a new favourite author! The Dialogue itself is pure perfection and I would have happily read a whole book containing only the dialogue between Regan and Aldo. The feelings in this book? Oh, they are real, and so is the tension. Regan is feeling them, Aldo is feeling them and I am feeling them too. "I can't go back, she whispered to herself [...]. Okay, her wide eyes said, okay, fine. Then get ready to move forward." (p. 201-202) Okay, I realise this is not a review but me gushing over this book. Please tell me you have read it and felt the same? A bit more serious: This book is really deep. It is more than just a love story and I'd highly recommend reading the acknowledgement. It's told a bit differently, like the reader is in the heads of the characters all the time. It's funny and sweet, serious and clever, deep and emotional, cozy and eye opening. And I loved it with every beat of my heart.

Einfach wow.
