Tropes (in my opinion): Enemies to Lovers, Family Drama, Powerful Artifacts, Dramatic Reveal, Alternate Dimensions
21.07.2019 (This is just a quick review from a re-read) This book was really good, the story was well detailed. I had forgotten most of it and I'm so glad I re-read it! I needed it after so long and now I can finally, finally start the second one!
If you are looking for a bit science fiction story mixed with some humor and love, this is a book for you. From the first second i felt for Meg, Theo and Paul. I love the idea of jumping through dimensions and what it does with the other versions consciousness. I enjoyed this book a lot and can't wait to start with Book 2.
3.5 ⭐️
In parts it‘s a product of it’s time, but I really liked the concept and the plot with some nice twists.
4,5 Sterne! This is YA done absolutely right! ❤
There won't be a full review, just a couple of my thoughts. This was my first multi-dimensions-book, so I was curious how this would be written in a way that wouldn't leave me too confused. Claudia Gray did that very well. I liked the overall plot and especially the world development. Right now (I just finished the book 5mins ago) the only thing I really didn't like is the (kind of) insta-love.
I really like the idea and the plot overall. However I have to say that the storyline was very predictable and therefore a bit boring at some points. Nevertheless, I enjoyed reading this one and the other two parts.
3.5 stars!
This felt way more original than any book I‘ve read in a while. Yes, there have been multiple time-traveling books but dimension-wise? Not so much. Personally, I‘d say I‘ve only seen this with Avenger‘s Endgame so far (which doesn‘t mean it hasn‘t been done before, I just don’t know other stories similar to A Thousand Pieces of You). I like the pacing of the narrative because the characters never stayed longer than necessary at any place and dragged the story with anything unnecessary plotline or dialogue. Claudia Gray, thank you. Character-wise, we got our backstory and with that our world-building. I knew where this plot was situated at and what the motivation of every character was, it all felt very grounded. Neither has been the deepest, but considering everything, the balance of every element of this book was in order. There is a weird love-triangle involved and it‘s a very evened-out one, a little bit heavy to one side. That whole dimension-traveling makes it messy in a lot of ways with people being different yet the same at the same time yet not at the same time. There are plot twists I wasn’t able to predict (whereas I have to mention that I’m not the best at predicting plot points because most of the time I’m too much invested in the plot to even care what happens ten minutes later. Short: I don’t think ahead unless it’s really obvious on what’s going to happen next). Weirdly, I want to see A Thousand Pieces of You adapted to a movie. All these different dimensions are probably a lot of fun to look at, so I wouldn’t mind that. Also, I really want to read the second book because this plot ended in a way that made me want to want more. -- You can read my full review on my blog Blattzirkus
