Austrian artist photographer Matthias Herrmann spent again several months on the occasion of a residency in Chelsea, New York. In and out the studio in 270 West 17th Street, appartement 20c, he explores New York, leaving out the grand view clichés of the city. Obviously interested in visual art in many levels we see art works and places of art as well as big city details of common places, always evocing the magic spirit in the ordinary. The photographic gesture of the close-up is essential along with the artist’s sequencing and book architecture. Herrmanns hommage on New York City has been strictly photographed analogue as he states in his book: No photoshop, no cropping, no tripod.
