Sassy, spicy, paranormal shifter romance with entertaining banter, funny lines and grumpy sunshine characters. This is a great introduction to the omegaverse and werewolves. It felt a little long in the middle and I wasn’t the biggest fan of their fake dating reasons. The romance is the main focus and there is not a lot going on beside that. Also the third act break up was a bit too predictable. I still enjoyed it.

Lana Ferguson konnte mich schon in den ersten Kapiteln überzeugen. Der Humor in The Fake Mate war für mich On-Point! Ich liebe die Dynamik zwischen Mackenzie und Noah. Eine wirklich tolle Fake-Dating-Story, die auch noch übernatürliche Aspekte im Krankenhaussetting einflechtet. The Fake Mate ist sehr Fast-Pace, macht aber gerade deswegen so Spaß, ich habe es an einem Stück verschlungen. Es sind nur keine 5 Sterne geworden, weil der Mittelteil für meinen Geschmack zu viel Spice beinhaltet hat.

Yeah well, that was less than I expected. This book really got me with the expectation of hospital stuff and shapeshifters. I will not say I got neither of those, because let‘s face it, the book took place mostly at the hospital and the protagonists were undoubtedly shapeshifters. But there was so little of both, that you could easily have left it out. What was also bugging me about zhe shapeshifters thing was that there were no explanations for anthing? Yes okay, I‘m not that deep into shapeshifters ABC, but couldn’t you at least give a short explanation why Mackanzie was going into heat? And what is said heat? And what is it with that famous knot of Noah? Really, it would‘ve given the book a lot more depth if things got clarified more. Then there was the spice. And I‘m not one against spice in books, but I didn’t feel anything here. It just didn’t struck me and that was pretty lame. I won‘t say that Lana Ferguson‘s writing was bad, because that would be too much. Let‘s just say I definitely read better books than this.

Leider konnte mich das Buch nicht überzeugen. Den Anfang fand ich noch ganz gut, aber dann hat sich die Beziehung einfach viel zu schnell entwickelt, ohne dass es meiner Meinung nach eine gute Chemie zwischen den beiden Protagonisten gab. Ich hatte von dem Buch öfter gehört, dass es einen ähnlichen Vibe wie Bride von Ali Hazelwood haben soll. Meinen Geschmack hat es aber einfach nicht getroffen.

Nachdem ich Bride von Ali Hazelwood gelesen habe, war ich auf der Suche nach einem Buch mit einem ähnlichen Vibe. „The Fake Mate“ bot mir genau das, was ich gesucht habe. Die Charaktere sind mir schnell ans Herz gewachsen. Der Schreibstil ist witzig und humorvoll, bietet an den richtigen Stellen aber auch Ernsthaftigkeit und Spannung. Ich habs geliebt und kann’s an alle weiterempfehlen, die eine leichte, witzige und auch romantische Story für zwischendurch suchen und Interesse daran haben, langsam in die Shapeshifting / Werwolf Welt einzutauchen.
