We're spending one third of our life in sleep and never dabble to find out why or how to make most of our sleep. This book is purely awesome. Starting with neurochemical, neouroelectric and evolutionary science to explain what sleep is, how our bodies use it or depend on it and in which ways we and our culture are disturbing it, this book gives us everything this leading sleep-researcher knows about this mysterious state that no living organism can exist without. Finally, the author also spends some time discussing what should be changed in our culture now that we've found out more about sleep, mostly in schools, hospitals and in the workplace. Well written, interestingly told, (a great quality German audiobook that I listened to) and a really awesome topic that nobody's really thinking about but that is still of major importance to our physical performance, our well being and the development of our intelligence and that of our children. Can't recommend more if you're looking for mind-expanding nonfiction (or if you don't sleep well).
