After finishing the last book, I had high expectations once again. New characters and old ones keep me entertained; the world is changing (and sadly falling apart). We meet characters, which have some appearances in past books. I love how Meg has found a new life in Clecanian and how she has embraced her changed life. Of course, once you find out about her past it makes sense, as she does not want to be mated. Maxu seems to have his own reasons for not participating in the marriage and mating ceremony, as most of the others do. It's interesting and awkward when they end up mated right at the beginning (duh? The whole situation in the beginning). The chemistry between Maxu and Meg is perfect and doesn't require any elaboration. However, their sexual tension eventually fizzled out. This book focused more on conflicts happening because of humans. In the previous books, it was evident that the government was failing miserably in dealing with human abductions. Finally, in this book, it seems they have reached a tipping point. Even though I embraced the change and the insights (which I claimed before), I got bored after hitting the 80% mark. It could be another great book of the series, but for various reasons mentioned before it was just a solid read. Once again, our MCs are dragged into political machinations. Besides the abrupt ending, it was also quite interesting.
