This was fun! I liked the setting and the overall idea, and the LGBTQ rep. But sadly, everything felt rather flat to me, the characters as well as the world building and the plot. Also, it became kind of repetitive after a while and things didn't seem to pick up. Nontheless, I had a nice and easy time.

Sehr angenehmes Buch

This book was not the right fit for me. There were several parts about it that I did notlike, but for the most part I could not emotionally connect to the characters. That may be only my problem though, because this is a YA fantasy novel and it is as YA as it gets. The characters attend highschool, people get grounded and there are school activities going on everywhere. That's not a bad thing at all, it's just something I can not relate to, because I am out of my highschool years with crushes on the football captain. But that's not the only reason I could not connect to the characters. This is supposed to be a story about two teenagers falling in love and I didn't feel a spark. I did not feel them build a genuine connection. I did not want the to find each other - I actually prefered the protagonist with another character and that sould never happen in a love story. The feeling (at least from the protagonist) seem to be coming out of nowhere with no relatable foundation. I liked the supporting characters though. Maggie is thoughtful and forgiving, always knows when to be there for her friends and supports them no matter what. Jordan is more level-headed, but faces every problem calmly and stands out through his loyalty to his friends. Wyn was the 4th queer character in this book (which I loved) and they shone with their well shaped personality. They always seemed sure of themselves and gave great advise. The fantasy aspect of the book was okay I guess. It wasn't string, because it lacked information about the different types of creatures and how this magic and the magical world worked in general. But it seemed logical and was explained to a point where you could easily follow the storyline. That's another thing I was not quite satisfied with: the storyline! A long long long long time happens nothing. There is not progress and you don't really see the story going anywhere, until .. you see exactly where it will end. The plottwist (if you want to call it that) is not subtle at all. It sceams at you and than wants you to act surprised. Well, I don't have to tell you I was not. The best thing about this book and probably the only one that kept me from quitting is the witing. It is sometimes poetic, sometimes funny and you can read at a very steady pace.
