I was thinking about whether to give this 4 or 5 stars. If 4.5 were possible maybe I would’ve given it that. I just enjoyed reading it too much to give it 4 stars, but it doesn't quite deserve 5 stars. It's too thin for that I really loved it towards the end and at some parts I just couldn’t put it down. It will probably resonate even more with American readers

Why did it take me so long to finally read this book?? Tbh I knew how hyped it is recently and kind of knew that the plot would have something to do with the prince of England haha well … So basically I started reading it, I actually I liked it, once I could follow Casey McQuiston’s writing style. I liked how there was no slow start but there was action right from the first page on. It took me awhile to get to know all the different characters and to be able to differentiate them from another. But I have to say that the plot lost my interest until the last third of the book. Nevertheless, it wasn’t bad at all either. Could be cause I wasn’t able to read continuously but only like 20 pages at a time but there were also some repetitions in this middle part. Overall, I was pleased by the romance - gay as it is -

I started to re-read this right before watching the movie because it'd been quite I while. I am BEYOND glad that I re-read this book. I was reminded of why this was one of my favorite book in 2021. I left with no choice but to give this 5⭐️ again, just for the feels. So basically this was a super fun read for me. I love both Alex and Henry equally and to write two characters that are so lovable is rare honestly. Every time Henry said "er" I had the fattest grin on my face. I really appreciate how you can tell the difference in accent and just Country they live in, by the way they talk. This is one of those books where there is something constantly going on. We get right into the heat of it all in the first 30 pages of the books and it just never stops. I feel like the relationship development in this book was done super well. You can tell that with every text and call and meeting, they both find something new to love about each other. The unsureness and the way they grow and learn from each other just gets me everytime. The fact that they are an LDR-couple and the Prince of England and the FSOTUS just make the yearning sooooo good and painful. This book also has really good emotional depth. They both have struggles of their own and they comfort each other through it all. They are just so soft and some of their moments give me literal butterflies. Side characters are also super strong in this and the plot is super compelling. I literally don't have one character I could name that isn't well fleshed out. My only critic of this book is that it somehow is really hard to make progress with. Like yes I read this in 2 days but the amount of hours it took was crazy. Like if this were an EH book it would've taken me 5 hours not 10. Anyway this isn't the only case but one where I will literally not talk to you if you haven't read the book, because it is 10000% better than the movie. This book is just too good and must be read. That one short paragraph about what the female president means to all the girls alone was worth reading the entire book for.

Anfangs war ich etwas eingeschüchtert, da ich es auf englisch gelesen hab und mit Politik so gar nicht abkann. Das hat sich aber schnell gedreht und das Buch hat mich komplett in den Bann gezogen. Enemies to Lovers und forbidden Romance, Queer love story gepaart mit all den politischen Geschehnissen hat ein hervorragendes Buch zu Tage gebracht.. ich habs geliebt bis zum Schluss!

dieses buch ist einfach eine glatte 10/10 – für mich stimmt alles. alex und henry sind super süße charaktere, der schreibstil ist toll und was ich so überzeugend finde: keine 0815 story!! ich finde es einschläfernd immer von nachbarschaftsbegegnungen, eis dates oder neuen dynamiken in freundschaften lesen zu müssen, hier findet das zusammentreffen auf einer ganz anderen, formellen und vor allem öffentlichkeitswirksamen ebene statt, die der story eine interessante komponente bringt. für mich ein absolutes wohlfühlbuch :)

Auf 'Red, White and Royal Blue' von Casey McQuinston bin ich erst aufmerksam geworden, als ich die Amazon-Verfilmung dazu gesehen hatte. Ich fande den Film so toll, dass ich unbedingt die Vorlage dazu lesen wollte und ich bin mehr als happy über die Entscheidung. 'Royal Blue' dreht sich um eine queere Liebesgeschichte zwischen Alex, dem Sohn der ersten weiblichen Präsidentin der USA und Henry, dem Prinz von England. Die zwei konnten sich lange Zeit nicht ausstehen, bis sie ein öffentliches Fauxpas dazu zwingt, mehr Zeit miteinander zu verbringen. Die beiden merken recht schnell, das ihr jeweiliges Bild vom anderen nicht der Wahrheit zu entsprechen scheint. Was mit einer Freundschaft beginnt, wird recht schnell zu einer Romanze, die ungeahnte Folgen mit sich bringt. Und das nicht nur für die Beiden selbst, sondern auch für die jeweiligen Regierungsoberhäupter. 'Royal Blue' ist genau das, was ich mir erwartet hat - eine schöne Liebesgeschichte mit viel Tiefgang, fantastischen Protagonisten und stellenweise richtig fesselnden Side-Storylines. Ich habe Alex und Henry richtig in mein Herz geschlossen und auch die anderen Figuren haben wunderbar in die Geschichte gepasst. Besonders positiv fande ich, dass sich die Geschichte nicht nur um die Liebesgeschichte von Alex und Henry dreht, sondern auch um die politischen Folgen, die die Beziehung mit sich bringt. Der Schreibstil hat mich stellenweise etwas gefordert (ich habe das Buch auf englisch gelesen) und die Kapitel fand ich auch etwas zu lange, das hat meinem Leseerlebnis aber kaum einen Abbruch getan. Was mir aber etwas negativ auffiel ist die Tatsache, dass mir sowohl Alex als auch Henrys Entscheidungen teilweise etwas zu überstürzt und wenig überdacht vorkamen - vielleicht ging das aber auch nur mir so 😃 Dennoch, ich kann das Buch wirklich allen empfehlen, die das 'Enemies to Lovers'-Trope genauso gerne lesen wie ich. Ich verspreche euch: ihr werdet euch in Alex und Herny verlieben.

Ohhh, I do have a soft spot for quirky story ideas and can therefore easily forgive a plot that might come across as a bit contrived and predictable: Alex, son of the U.S. President, and Henry, Prince of England, hate each other. Through a few unexpected turns of fate, they’re forced to spend time together—and learn that they have more in common than they thought. Suddenly, they find themselves in a passionate romantic relationship that compels them to question their self-image and identity more than once. I deliberately held off on watching the film so I could read the book first—and I’m glad I did! The story had a good pace, with lovely, original, diverse characters. That said, I did have to get used to the narrative style (third person in the present tense…phew!) and the uneven chapter lengths. Also, the subplot around the re-election was a tad too prominent at times. Despite these small gripes, it’s a big recommendation if you‘re looking for something light and easy to read in between!

I have just binged this within a day (excluding the first 30 pages I read on the train back from Paris) and am a bit emotional about it. Do I like romance books? No. Did I still enjoy this? Yes! More than anything what made my heart flutter was the character growth, the pure emotions regarding self discovery and self-fulfillment. It’s a beautiful story, very cliche and at times a bit reminiscent of fan fiction. Do I care? Less than I thought I would. A nice book, I enjoyed reading it a lot, even with some of the quirks I didn’t fully enjoy.

It is kind of fanfiction-esque but who cares. It's a really good super enjoyable happy great book with awesome characters and so so much love. I thoroughly enjoyed the book from start to finish. The characters were amazing (not just the protagonists - literally every single one). I would highly recommend reading this book if you enjoy diverse characters, sassiness and young strong intelligent people who believe in a great future.

So yeah, I think it's clear that I LOVED it. I had to force myself to not read it in one sitting. Also I got this as an ebook for 2,50€ which made me break my "no buying books in January" rule. A&H are my new OTP, they make my heart literally melt. And I just really hope the movie will be as good (or well, not BAD at least) because my heart could not handle anybody ruining them and their love. +++GERMAN+++ Dieses Buch habe ich auf Englisch am 1.Januar 2020 angefangen und war einen Tag später durch. Gekauft habe ich das, weil es für 2€ im Angebot als Ebook war. Ich war definitiv nicht drauf vorbereitet, wie gut dieses Buch sein wird. Ein Jahreshighlight am zweiten Tag des Jahres. Die Latte für die noch kommenden Bücher liegt also echt hoch. Ich bin nur etwas irritiert, dass der deutsche Name gekürzt wurde und das Cover anscheinend blau ist? Naja, aber das ändert ja nichts am Inhalt. Worum geht es überhaupt? Es geht um Alex und Henry. Alex ist der Sohn der aktuellen Präsidentin der USA und Henry ist der britische Thronfolger. Die beiden mögen sich nicht wirklich und bei einem Besuch "eskaliert" es etwas. Davon kriegen die Medien was mit und eine Staatskrise droht... Um das zu verhindern, sollen die zwei vortäuschen, befreundet zu sein. Und dabei... freunden die zwei sich wirklich an. Vielleicht ja noch mehr? Dieses Buch ist einfach super und ich bin mega gehypt auf den Film, der 2021 rauskommen soll!

Ich muss sagen, die Geschichte von Henry und Alex hat mir sehr gut gefallen und die beiden sind sehr authentisch und sympathisch beschrieben worden. Trotz der guten Story habe ich aber durch den sehr anspruchsvollen Schreibstil häufiger den Faden verloren und habe beim lesen mehrmals gestockt. Da das Buch aus dem englischen übersetzt wurde, kann es allerdings auch an der Übersetzung ins deutsche liegen. Alles in allem übermittelt das Buch aber eine sehr tolle und realistische Story, welche auf jeden Fall anregt das Buch zu lesen. Ich bin außerdem sehr gespannt wie der Film zum Buch sein wird :)

Es ist keine Überraschung, dass dieses Buch besser ist als der Film. Die ganzen Szenen die es nicht in den Film geschafft haben, sind so schön und machen einiges aus. Das Drama um die geleakten Emails sind im Buch nochmal anders und es steckt mehr dahinter als im Film. Es war schön zu lesen.

Ich habe die Geschichte Rund um Alex und Henry erst durch den Film kennengelernt. Also war die Neugier auf die Buchvorlage groß! Ich mochte sehr an dem Buch, die weiteren Charaktere (die im Film zum Teil gar nicht vorkommen)! Auch die ausgiebigen Einblicke in den E-Mail Verkehr der beiden, war mein persönliches Highlight. Wer den Film vor dem Buch gesehen hat, wird trotzdem nicht enttäuscht (da doch viele Dinge sehr unterschiedlich sind). Wer Film und Buch in dem Fall voneinander trennt, der hat zwei wirklich schöne Storylines, die die gleiche Geschichte erzählen!

"Red, White & Royal Blue" starts absolutely hilarious with the view into Alex Claremont-Diaz's public and private life as first son of the United States and his irrational hatred (jealousy? crush? Definitely both) of the younger prince of the United Kingdom. When the two of them get closer and start their affair, the book slips more into dramatic, with the two young men navigating distance, feelings, expectations and consequences (all on an international level), but without losing the hilarious parts that draw the reader in during the first part of the book. There's a lot of positive things to be said about this book, especially the care that was put into the other relationships that Alex and Henry have with their friends and family, as well as into the political landscape and campaign surrounding the plot. The latter, I imagine, can easily hit too close to home though and while the romance is an easy read when it only concerns the two of them, the political part of this book (especially the reelection campaign) and the reactions and consequences they face aren't always. All in all, I can very much reccomend!

Ich hatte mal angefangen die Deutsche Version zu lesen und habe bei der Hälfte abgebrochen. Damit ist das hier der zweite Versuch. Ich muss sagen, dass ich es nur empfehlen kann es auf englisch zu lesen. Die Geschichte generell wirkt irgendwie authentischer und natürlicher. Ich habe auch nicht so lange gebraucht um in das Buch und die Sprache zu finden. Die Perspektive aus der dritten Person wird nie mein Favorit sein und es hat mich auch ein bisschen gestört beim lesen aber es ist einfach Gewöhnungssache. Die Liebesgeschichte ist richtig süß und ich musste mehr als nur einmal bei den Emails lachen. Nora,June,Alex,Henry, Bea und Pez sind eine unglaublich lustige und coole Truppe, ich habe die Party Szenen unglaublich gerne gelesen. Generell war das Buch vollgepackt mit unglaublich lustigen aber auch süßen Szenen und Settings, dass mich der Teil wo über Politik gesprochen wurde gar nicht mehr so stark gestört hat. Plot technische fand ich die Mitte etwas langweilig, was mich wahrscheinlich auch beim ersten Versuch dazu gebracht hat abzubrechen. Am Anfang hat es mich auch etwas verwundert, dass Alex und Henry schon so früh zusammenkomme im späteren Kontext macht es aber Sinn. Nach der Mitte hat der Plot auch mehr Momentum gehabt und das Ende war einfach nur toll. Ich habe besonders die Rede von Alex geliebt. Insgesamt hat es sich gelohnt dem Buch eine weitere Chance zu geben und es auf englisch zu lesen.

Das Buch war ganz ok für zwischendurch. Es ist eine klassische Enemies to Lovers Geschichte. Die Charaktere sind sehr sympathisch, authentisch und facettenreich. Der Schreibstil ist sehr warmherzig und humorvoll, allerdings ist die Welt, in der das Buch spielt sehr idealisiert. Alles ist sehr stark in gut und böse eingeteilt, manchmal war mir alles zu perfekt und zu Schön um wahr zu sein.

Insgesamt hat mir das Buch gut gefallen. Die Ausgangssituation und die Royal Vibes konnten mich überzeugen. Zudem fand ich die Charaktere wirklich toll. Allerdings blieb durch den Schreibstil für mich eine gewisse emotionale Distanz. Ich habe mich zwar mit der Zeit an den Schreibstil gewöhnt, aber es fehlen mir einfach die Emotionen.
