*4.5 stars* Of the 3 novellas this one's my favorite! I adored Despina and Jalal in The Wrath & the Daen and always wanted to know what had happened before Shazi appeared. THEY ARE ADORABLE. I looove them both so much and therefore this was a great little novella... I highly enjoyed it!

I think it was really good to see these two characters beginning. It explains Despina's reaction during The Wrath and the Dawn and it gives us important background for not only Jalal and Despina, but for Kahlid too, partially at least, on the changes in the palace.
