This novel was soo good. Jamie and Wes have been best friends for six weeks every summer between the ages of 12 and 18 where they were roommates at an ice hockey summer camp. When Wes fell in love with Jamie, he thought he fucked up their friendship with a dare, and broke up contact as a consequence. Four years later, they meet again, both wishing to get their old friendship back. They do, finding themselves back at the summer camp, this time as coaches, sharing a room again. We follow them working through old and not-quite-new-but-newly-acknowledged feelings, what that means and what they want it to mean for their friendship, their relationship, their now and their future. The writing was great and the dynamic between Jamie and Wes, but also the few other characters that showed up, kept me glued to the book because I needed to know what they'd do next. What helped was that it was never a question that they cared for each other. The questions were in which way and what does it mean for them, but never that they care. I loved that, it made for a pleasant reading experience. The hockey setting also worked nice, and I liked how it was incorporated into their story and their struggles for their future, as well as the importance in their past.

I started this book because it’s one of the most popular gay sports romance stories which is a genre I love as well as a good friends to lovers story but I got very disappointed. This book is massively overhyped and very problematic in my opinion. My biggest problem with it is how misogynistic it is. There was not a single woman who was not reduced to a sexual object whether they were a side character or just some random encounter on the street. Their only purpose was to display how incredibly hot but entirely uninterested MC1 was. Also the image of women the two MCs discus is so misogynistic I was constantly rolling my eyes. It was moreover full of biphobia in a weird way. One of the MCs seemed very afraid to compete with both genders. For the writing style I needed some time to get into but could get used to it at some point. I found the love story of the MCs kind of cute, but the rest of the book was so problematic I am going to avoid these authors in the future.

Desire is chemistry. And in a biochem class I took once, they taught us that all chemistry is just electricity. We’re all just bags of charged atoms walking around bumping into each other. It took me a while to get into this book but it was quite an enjoyable read. Wes and Jamie were interesting characters and I love that Jamie acknowledged his bisexuality. However, I expected more conflict because of Wes’ parents. Compared to other books (*cough*[b: The Kiss Quotient|36199084|The Kiss Quotient (The Kiss Quotient, #1)|Helen Hoang|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1527983633s/36199084.jpg|57828311] *cough*) the sex scenes were incredibly well written. And contrary to other couples, they actually had chemistry! There was no insta-love, on the contrary, they actually knew each other very well because they spent so many years together at camp. Adding to that, the subplot about their hockey career was actually interesting. I think their voices sounded quite similar though and I often had to check whose POV I’m reading.

lovely & adorable.

„My life has been a chaotic for as long as i can remember, and I always dealt with it alone. […] But for six weeks every summer, i didn‘t have to be alone. I had Jamie, my best friend, my rock.“ Damn, I loved it. I was hooked from the start. It‘s such a great story about lifetime friendship, forgiveness, about the question of what love means & just utter adorable! I loved jamie’s character, such a confident but sweet boy, all about exploring and don’t give a shit about whether it’s a men or not. All what matters was Wes to him as a Person. It made my heart swell of how much trust they gave each other. Also, how he acted with the kids, especially with this one young lad. Jamie’s Family is incredible! Made me a bit emotional at the ending. I liked Wes too, closed off a bit, but always in care for the people he likes and loves. I would say the spice level is about 3/5. I really enjoyed reading this book & I’ll definitely read the sequel!

They don‘t play for the same team. Or do they?

I never thought that I would be able to read a book about hockey. But many friends told me that „him“ was so gorgeous and if I start I’m not capable to lay it down. They were right. This is a story about two guys who were friends for years. They met every summer for 6 intensive weeks in summer Hockeycamp. When suddenly Wes is getting apart of Jamie and he was wondering what has happened. Ok, things went a bit weird after the last night at hockey camp when they were eighteen. It was only a little drunken foolishness and nobody dies. But Wes know that Jamie is very straight and he isn’t. More of it, Wes is deeply in love with Jamie and didn’t want to tell him. Than they met again and after a look at his longtimecrush Wes know he can’t get off his way. Jamie want to discover if only one night of sex can ruin a friendship. If not, how about six more weeks of it? In this summer Jamie is going to learn a lot about himself.

My rating might be a bit biased as this is my second time reading it and I have also read the sequel "Us" but I just love Wes and Jamie. About a year ago Him was my first mm romance ever and I couldn't have wished for a better couple than Wes and Jamie. I love their friendship, I love their relationship and how passionate they in everything, especially each other, as well in their sports. I really liked how most people treated their relationship as normal because that is exactly how it should be. Love is love. The authors created a story full of love, friendship and romance which makes you swoon as well as laughing about several funny scenes.

Wow.
