Same as the two first short stories of this series, "The Whitechapel Fiend" disappoints me again. I only read this to know more about what happens to Simon after [b:City of Heavenly Fire|8755785|City of Heavenly Fire (The Mortal Instruments, #6)|Cassandra Clare|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1460477794l/8755785._SY75_.jpg|13629068], but this story only has very few scenes taking place with Simon at the Shadowhunter Academy, full of cameos of beloved characters that merely feel like shells of who they are in the main books. The world building of the Academy doesn't make sense to me (wtf was that how-to-fall-down-a-tree lesson?) and the pettiness of everyone involved annoys me. Tessa's recollection of the Jack the Ripper/The Whitechapel Fiend case is the most interesting part of this story, and still they bore me. No connection between past and present seems to be drawn which makes me wonder what the purpose of all of this is.
