ZERO stars! Honestly. To say I didn't like it would be the understatement of the year. Yancey fabricated here the biggest mashup of alien-invasion chiches & tropes I've come across in a single book. Not a bad thing per se, it just doesn't add up! Decimating the leftovers of humanity with brainwashed kids, while there are plenty of rambo-like soldiers left from the 4th Wave?! Very bad resource management. No wonder they had to leave their planet/galaxy. The invaders are an incredibly intelligent, bodiless conscience, thousands of hundreds of years old. The same ones whom it took 6000 years to (literally) stalk humanity to learn their ways of thinking. (We are not that complicated, weird aliens.) The love story is even weirder. The alien falls for the human, because... we don't get to know. Who cares, he loves her and has nice cuticles and hands like soft clouds (quoting the heroine here). She falls for him because he stalks her? Because he is lying to her nonstop and is obsessive? I may give the film a try, on a day when I'll run out of books...
4.5 Stars :)
Really liked the 1st person narrator here! I felt close to the characters, they all had their own type of writing and the monologues in their heads where just pretty realistic and all the emotions came through. Very well done by the author! A minor minus point: The whole invasion doesn‘t seem much too realistic to me from to point where the 5th wave starts. The first four waves, I get those. But child soldiers killing off each other and the remaining survivors? What kind of extinction plan is that? But maybe we‘ll learn more about that in the following books.
4.5 stars One word: Wow. But before I say anything else, I had a hard time to get into it at first. I don't really know why, it's captivating and thrilling and I was super excited but at the same time I was constantly confused and irritated! Cassie is an awesome character! She's badass and brave and strong and sceptical about everything, which is good because ... well, aliens? war? She's alone and there are "Silencers" everywhere? You can't just run around and trust everyone you see ... I loved Cassie's thoughts and also her humor! It's like I relived her memories and emotions and all the danger ... but without actual aliens here. :) I liked the changing POV's a lot! Especially Ben Parish's POV was amazing to read and I always looked forward to them - I really started to like him and I was so scared he might die or get killed or something else might happen to him, ugh. But Sams! I loved how protective Ben was over him! Especially those last scenes, where he comes back for lil' Nugget and wants to save him, god. That made me love Parish even more! HE'S AWESOME!! Another favorite was, of course, Evan Walker! He's a perfect, goodlooking farm boy that washes your hair, cooks you food and always helps you in general. He's also super good with guns and other weapons ... quite handy during an alien invasion, right? Gosh, I loved him so so much! At first I wasn't sure about him and especially when I read Cassie's sceptical thoughts ... well, I agreed with her. His scenes with Cassie were all amazing! I loved every little one of them, no matter how tiny and unimportant they were! The story/plot itself was thrilling and very well thought out! I never read alien-invasion stories or something like that but of course I saw some movies and knew what I had to expect ... and still, this was SO MUCH BETTER! Everything made sense in the end and well, talking about the end ... HOW AWESOME AND CRUEL AT THE SAME TIME WAS THAT?!? It leaves you with so many questions and you're worried about what happens next and if everyone survives and and and - just PERFECT! Damnit, I'm so excited for "The Infinite Sea" now! I can't wait to continue the amazing journey with all those amazing characters!
Inhalt: Die erste Welle brachte Dunkelheit.
OH MY OH MY.... Evan... I would have been permanently jumping up and down throughout the last chapters if this wouldn't have put the health of my book at risk (or the one of my legs, for that matter, though i guess i would not have really cared about that xD) The book was overall very compelling and I probably would have read it in one sitting if my family wouldn't always feel the urge to disturb me just when I'm about to open my book. Oh well, I guess like this I was at least able to enjoy it over a longer period of time :3
Honestly not my cup of tea…
Wooow! Was soll ich noch sagen?! Ich liebe es! <3 <3
* 3.5 stars I guessed major plots in this book...those plots where really obvious. But besides it was a great book :) good idea! It was tough to listen to it, because it became so confusing with all those time jumps and waves and what not. I liked the different voices :) Zombie was so cool! But I really don't like the future love triangle. It's really not necessary. But I don't like the actual shipping either....my dream ship (idk because they really weren't that close) became real...maybe. I'm not sure. It happened on the last page and I was so confused. Curious about the second book :) but some people say it's boring :/ I really don't want a love triangle...it would work out just great without any love xD oh man .-.
This was one of my first Sci-Fi books, and I loved it! The story was great, and I loved Evan the second I "met" him. The only thing that annoyed me was Cassie. I didn't understand her thinking sometimes and her voice got a bit annoying. Nevertheless one of the best reads this year! 4|5 Stars!
